Well, I don't get down there too much to hang out, but Pacific Beach has some awesome bars.  Hooters, Moondoggies and Pacific Beach Bar & Grill are all within walking ( or stumbling) distance of each other.  For the best steak dinner I would say "The Hunter" in nearby Carlsbad.  I think it's right where the 78 and 5 meet.  Can't help you with hotels, I'm afraid.

I know Mandelon lives in the area, as well as Ziggy and I think RiverDave also.  If they pop in here, I'm sure they will be more help.

When is your trip?

The more metro areas of San Diego proper have the better hotels, but there are a few in the north county as well. I don't get out and party the clubs much but the Gaslamp district has the easiest access to walk from one to another.
Hunter Steakhouse at the I-5 and 78 intersection has excellent food...great suggestion from MMSW.
If you have a strong budget, staying at the Holtel Del on Coronado island is sweet, right on a nice fluffy beach.

Did you know they built that island for the world's fair in the early 1900s?

Sorry, the history nut strikes again.
