You probably heard about the terrible train wreck here in Los Angeles early this morning.

I had an employee on board on her way to work. Thank GOD she is OK!

And thanks to the good people at Costco for coming to the aid of those people in the train!  :good

My personnel guy just told me it might have been Home Depot....she was pretty shaken when she called in. Regardless, thanks to the people who helped her out.

It was Costco, from what I heard on the radio driving around today.

Everyone pitched in at the store, even the drivers who were unloading their trucks... :good   They were using shopping carts to move some of the less wounded away from the wreckage.

The accident was caused by some PSYCHO FOCKER who wanted to "off" himself, but chicken'd out at the last minute, leaving his SUV on the tracks. More than 10 people died and some 200 injured....!!!  :angry

Just a tragedy.... :(

C'mon Sleek, give me a little credit OK? After I ticked off Silver, I don't wanna go 2 fer 2! :stupid

Yeah Shue, I just got home from work and watched the news. What the hell is going on in this world?  :angry
We had to do a little counseling here because alot of our people take the Blue line in to work from Union Station and I guess its a mess up there. They had to carpool or take buses home.

I guess on a good note it was reassuring to see the emergency response teams work so fast. Very impressive. Those guys really do a fantastic job. :good

What I wouldn't give for a week on the water right about now... :peace

Oh, and don't forget that the guy who caused the accident is an ILLEGAL Immigrant.  And all the while they are trying to give drivers license to illegals in CA :rolleyes  :rolleyes   Well, at least the DA was on top of this one and charged the guy with Homicide.
But you know how that goes here, some liberals will start protesting about how the illegal is so underpriveledged and mentally upset and that he should be set free :rolleyes  :stupid  And you know, some Liberal judge will probably do just that :angry  :angry  :angry
I say.......Death to ALL illegals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Screw deportation!  Kill'em all so they can't come back!

And you just KNOW that they are gonna try and twist this thing around, and blame it on society.  I'm waiting for the Liberals to come out of the woodwork on this one....I can see it now, they will blame this dudes actions on a mental condition that was brought on because the people of California was insensitive to his needs :banghead  :banghead  :banghead   And they will probably end up giving him citizenship after it's all said and done :angry  :angry

Hey BBT, I'm not opposed to giving this guy resident status.

As long as his permanent place of residence is Forest Lawn.

It's scary to know that hitting a motor vehicle can derail a train. :eek  This brings up the safety issue of "push/pull" operations.  Many believe that if the train contacted the Cherokee with the locomotive end, it wouldn't have derailed as the locomotive weighed twice as much as the rail car.  Maybe this accident will change things.  Remember the good ole days when passenger trains were always pulled by locomotives?

Us guys at Metro were assigned to guard the crime scene last night.  One hell of a mess and to see the force/devastation up close is incredible.

My personal experience:
While working a detective assignment back in 98", I rode Metro link Fullerton to LA for a year.  I was in the lead car upper level behind the engine when it hit an empty semi trailer in Santa Fe Springs (Valley View crossing) at 55+mph.  The trailer exploded but the train did not derail and there were no injuries, no broken windows.  I have no doubt that the outcome would have been MUCH different had the 300,000+ engine been at the front.  A jeep cherokee weighs a lot less than a semi trailer.  The Metrolink cars are made by Bombardier, the see doo co.  They are made light for fuel economy and they crumpled like tin cans out there.  Metrolink would be foolish not to run every train engine first starting today.  The news just posted a federal transportation warning from the late 80's(!;) stating the danger to passengers in "cab cars" .  It even quoted railroad employees as calling those cars "death cars".

Too bad it takes a tragedy like this for change.
