I don't have an "Official" story to cut & paste in here, but I was watching the news this morning and many of you probably heard about the couple who went to visit their chimp who was moved to an animal welfare center after he bit a cop a while back.

Well it seems 2 other chimps got out and attacked the couple....the wife was bitten and the guy got nailed!

The Sheriff was describing how most of his face was gone and he was beaten badly. Then as I was sipping my coffee I almost gagged when I heard him say,"And his testicles were found a short distance from the body". (something to that effect)

So, next time my kids ask for a cute little monkey I know I'll feel a "twinge" somewhere as a reminder to say, "Absolutely not!" :beat

Found it!

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/03/04/chimp.attack.ap/index.html

KERSFIELD, California (AP) -- A couple's plans for a birthday party for their former pet chimpanzee turned tragic when two other chimps at an animal sanctuary escaped from their cage and attacked. The man was critically injured with massive wounds to his face, body and limbs, and the attacking animals were shot dead.

St. James and LaDonna Davis were at the Animal Haven Ranch in Caliente to celebrate the birthday of Moe, a 39-year-old chimpanzee who was taken from their suburban Los Angeles home in 1999 after biting off part of a woman's finger.

Moe was not involved in Thursday's attack, said Steve Martarano, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Game.

The couple had brought Moe a cake and were standing outside his cage when Buddy and Ollie, two of four chimpanzees in the adjoining cage, attacked St. James Davis, Martarano said. Officials have not determined how the chimps got out of their enclosure, he said.

LaDonna Davis, 64, suffered a bite wound to the hand while trying to help her 62-year-old husband, Martarano said.

The son-in-law of the sanctuary's owner killed the attacking animals, Martarano said.

"He saw what was happening and had one kind of weapon with him and then got another he felt would be more substantial and shot them," Martarano said. "He pretty much saved a life."

St. James Davis had severe facial injuries and would require extensive surgery in an attempt to reattach his nose, Dr. Maureen Martin of Kern Medical Center told KGET-TV of Bakersfield. His testicles and a foot also were severed, Kern County Sheriff's Cmdr. Hal Chealander told The Bakersfield Californian.

Davis was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery late Thursday, Martarano said.

Buddy, a 16-year-old male chimp, initiated the attack and after he was shot, Ollie, a 13-year-old male, grabbed the gravely injured man and dragged him down the road, authorities said.

"Everybody was trying to get the chimp off," Chealander said.

Two other chimps, females named Susie and Bones, also escaped from the cage they shared with Ollie and Buddy, prompting sheriff's deputies, animal control workers, and Fish and Game officials to launch a search.

The wayward pair were recovered by Animal Haven owner Virginia Brauer after five hours. Martarano said one chimp was two miles from the sanctuary, located 25 miles southeast of Bakersfield.

The Davises had waged an unsuccessful legal fight to bring Moe back to their West Covina home and visited him regularly at the sanctuary where he had been living since October. They brought the chimp from Africa decades ago after a poacher killed his mother.

Animal Haven Ranch has held state permits to shelter animals since 1985 and serves as a sanctuary for animals that have been confiscated or discovered lost, Martarano said.

It is allowed to house up to nine primates at one time and is home to one spider monkey and six chimpanzees, he said. The permits are held by Virginia and Ralph Brauer, whom neighbors described as responsible animal lovers.

"She's devoted her whole life to taking care of these chimpanzees," said Jeanne Miller, a family friend.

Sad ending to someone trying to do good and/or care for the poor animals, happens often enough........Ask Roy. Wild animals and humans are not always a good mix. :(

When I was a bartender at Busch Gardens, they had some Chimps on an island that the tour boats would pass.
They couldn't keep the Monkeys long because of constant problems.
They'd poop in their hands and throw it at people on the passing boats among other things.

They were brutal,, always something bad happening with them.

After about a week they were removed from the Gardens.

It's demise all began one day when the old man Auggie Busch gave a speech to the employees.
I was in the front row and this is what he said:

"We expect Schlitz (the number one brewer at the time) to be out of business within a year because they changed their recipe and their beers taste." - Busch called that right, No 1 Schlitz folded in a year from their "New Coke" idea.

Then he said: "Miller Brewing is expanding at a rate to keep up with their anticipating of Schlits demise."- Busch called that wrong, and got blindsided in a way that took Budwiser 20 years to correct.

The reason Miller was expanding was to produce their new product: "Miller Lite". A well kept secret that quickly took over 26% of the US beer market within weeks.

So, Budwiser had to expand their production, and a bulldozer through the gardens was the solution.

It was a great job. I collected my GI bill money going to college, and got even more money on the GI bill because Budwiser called me a "Bouncer" instead of a bartender. The Veterans admin took it to mean: "Administration of Justice" job training.

You could drink on the job, and bring your dog to work, and dogs were great to have when you had to throw out unrully drunks- and their were plenty of them. How cool was that?
Brother, do I ever have Busch Gardens stories.

I guess that place was a little before my time.  I was a little kid when I went there.  Thanks for the reply though.

I remember some sort of water flume ride and a boat ride. What else did they have?  Did they have an aerial tram too?

Just the boat ride, the flume, a monorail brewery tour and some shows.
They put in a small roller coaster, and it ran for a few months untill Budwiser realized the light beer market was here to stay and everything was demolished for brewery production expansion.

Busch gardens at first was free admission, with unlimited free beer.
That was really hard to control,, some days throwing people out at an hourly rate.

Then Budwiser charged to get in,, and beers were limited at Two per guest at each of 5 dispensing locations.
All the gate money was givin to charity,, and employees were simply paid out of the Budwiser payroll.

It was very poorly run.
High School kids supervising college students and retired snowbirds made for a flamable situation, and the place was a mess. No dedicated custodial or cleanup crew.

Before we become thread hijackers:
My kids did ask for a monkey from time to time.
I told them the poop throwing story, and that nothing smells worse than Monkey Poop,, nothing.

I know this guy St. James Davis.  Years ago he'd come into my speed shop in West Covina and buy stuff all the time.  I think he had a Nascar circle car of some kind.  Pretty nice guy, focked up deal what happened.  I heard on the news this am he's still in pretty bad shape at Loma Linda, most his face gone, foot, piece of butt, arm focked up, and sans balls.  Fockin monkeys I never realized they were so mean.  he's gotta be a pretty old dude by now cause that was about 25 years ago when he was coming into my shop.  Hope he recovers from it.  My prayers go out to he and his wife.

Theres a saying that quite simply states "captured, but never tamed". It takes more than a few cute tricks to domesticate wild animals. Ask those two in Vegas about their tigers. Lesson learned = always watch your back.

Yeah I heard about that. Now they are having a hard time of breaking him from licking his ass. :D

Speaking of lions and people who shouldn't own 'em....did you hear about the whack jobs that they just arrested in Moorpark? Seems their 352 lb Siberian tiger got out and they lied about it and tried to cover it up. They think it may have spooked some horses that ultimately caused an accident which led to one death and one seriously injured :angry
