Remember my little diatribe a few weeks ago about people saying rims instead of wheels when talking about those round shiny things on cars????

Well, we recently recieved a brand new toy at work.  A shiny new mobile substation.  This thing is freakin' monsterous, is assembled on 3 different trailers, and when all the equipment is put togather, the mobile sub measures almost 150' from tip to tail.  The power transformer is on it's own trailer, and weighs around 160,000 lbs all up.  It has a jeep that goes along with it as it's being towed down the road.  

Yesterday was the first time we've energized it and I was down at the sub to watch.  During a lull in the action, I walked over to where the jeep (actually a dolly to help distribute more weight over more axles) was parked and got to reading the data plate.  GVW is 76000 lbs... max axle weight ect... then I get to the bottom and it says : RIM size 22"...

I therefore give up.

Yep, I didn't know I was going so the camera was at the house...

That picture is off our website.

That is the power transformer, the back 3 set's of boggies caster to help it get around tight corners... it's quite the machine.

We contract with a company, (I can't remember their name right now), it will only have to be moved a couple times a year.  Trico doesn't own anything big enough to pull it.  If we ever need a driver, I know who I'll recommend...  :good
