Very cool pics. I'm sorry your liver hurts but I'm glad you had a good time. My son would go nuts there. He is 8 and already such a gear head. Jeff and I both love cars and he got a double whammy. He wants to be an auto designer/fabricator when he grows up, so he loves any kind of car show or race.

You should go next year. I've always wanted to have a big group of peeps camp out there, more people to party with..
What sucks is that the spring race takes place right at the beginning of boating season, so most everyone goes to the river or lake instead of the track. I wouldn't miss this weekend for the world though, we have to much fun.
The RV lot is 70.00 for the week (starting on Wednesday and we leave on Monday morning) and is about 200 feet from the track. Just the savings on beer and food is worth staying there. No parking headaches either.
If you buy the ticket packages before hand, you can save a considerable amount of money. I think it was 130.00 for all four days, with reserved seating Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Walk up ticket prices would have been over 200.00 for those same days.

We don't have an RV anymore, but let me know next year when it is and maybe we'll go and stay in a casino.

Did ya check out any local gent's club's? Â
What all did ya do? |
Pretty much stayed at the track and drank... It's kind of like a Nascar weekend, but it lasts for 5 days, so you kind of have to pace yourself. In the evening everyone is outside drinking beer and grilling up steaks. You can meet some pretty interesting peeps. The guy parked right next to us (his coach is out out of the picture) builds half million dollar street rods when he needs a little cash.
This is pretty much a family weekend kind of dealio, so we shy away from the TT bars and such on these trips.

Nope, I think Steve's son would shoot him if he ever sold it.
There's a pretty cool story to go along with the car as well. Â Steve's mother-in-law bought that car new and drove it for a number of years. Â Eventually it was passed down to the kids and was sold to someone outside the family, disappearing entirely not to long after that. Â And as all good hot rod stories go, Steve was in the junk yard one day searching for a part or two when he ran accross what was left of the old Falcon. Â Someone had tried to rod it out 70's style by hacking out the rear fender wells and jacking up the back end. Â It also had lost alot of it's original parts, but he couldn't bear to see it go by the way side. Â Ended up buying that car along with a couple other Falcons and a Ranchero for parts, then started a restoration. Â
When he was done, the little car had a 351 and a T10 trannie along with a restored top and interior and fresh paint. Â It looks like a stock Falcon, right down to the 13" wheels and tires and wheel covers. Â Some of the trim pieces he couldn't get so they are kind of pounded back out, but the trim looks a little...um.... off. Â By this time Grandma (his mother-in-law) was given the car to drive around and did so for almost 16 years. Â Just in the last few years was the car given back to Steve. Â He's been toying with the idea to go back through it and fix the few things that are still not right (like the trim pieces) and make it into a drivable show piece. Â
Next time I'm up in Colorado, I'll see if I can get some pictures. |
Yeah that's what I figured That's a cool story, wish I could find one of my cars that I owned at one time!..
