Well the big debate over Ford and GM is over, it has been settled and it's a done deal, both are "equal" and both are "JUNK"!.....
Junk!

And yes I do agree that Ford/GM are junk even though we own one of each. The only RELIABLE truck we own is our Dodge 3500 deisel dually 4x4 and cars have been import (Honda Civic and Toyota LandCruiser). On my 3rd tranny in the Chevy (112k) and 2nd transfer case on the F250 SD (52k) not to mention the Bronco prior to those with a blown engine at 75k. Sad to say, but it seems as though products are designed to fail

160,000 on my 4x4 Blazer with no real problems.
I've got an 85 3/4 ton GMC back in Colorado, quietly waiting for a new engine that has over 200,000 on the O/D and still has all of the original running gear.
My old Ford Taures SHO was just traded in with 250,000 miles and was still running strong.
Then there was the 89 3/4 Ford I owned that was still running at 300,000 miles, though to be fair I did have to put a new rear end in the thing at 190,000 miles and a transmission at 180,000.
I had a Mazda 626 die on me at 150,000 miles.
I guess it's just what kind of luck you have with the vehicles you buy.

That's true Sleek. My brother has the same year/model Chevy (2500 crew cab 4x4) and drives twice as much under severe conditions and his is still going strong. The frustration is that I have maintained our vehicles and don't expect too much from them.... win some, lose some.

Hey, I thought this forum was about the corporate financial options of the nations two largest automakers?
I bet they wish they had a Hemi. Or at least some cash.

I believe Yamaha built the engine in the SHO didn't they?
I'll be rolling into 160,000 miles in my 2000 E350 Super Duty sometime real soon......which reminds me, oil change before next weeks run out to the river. |
The SHO 3.0 was based on the Ford block and rotating assembly with Yamaha providing the top end(i.e. heads, intake, and valve train). Yamaha built and assembled the powerplants, but it was a Ford design.
I loved that car, one of the best engines I have ever been around. Don't tell Demonstaz on HB, but those cars make Maximas look stupid. And at the time they were being produced, they were one of the fastest 4 door sedans you could buy.
They were full of trick shit too. Things like variable length intake runners and DOHC. My 1992 SHO made just 5 less HP then the Mustang GT of the same year.
But like all good ideas out of Detroit, they killed it off in 1996 and replaced them with a POS V8 that was slower and by all accounts a horrible engine.
