How long is your boat???

OK... I was browsing on HB and I found a common rant about how all of the people that bring big ass boats to havi are, blah blah blah.. what ever but it made me think..

From what I have heard most people that are on this board have boats that are in the 18-23 foot range.  So my theory is that, One of the things that makes this place more relaxed is Most of us have classic or smaller river boats....  Less Ego involved..  :beat

:beer

Ohh well, Im bored at work so I thought I would test my stupid theory... Im probably wrong but what the hell...

The fact of the matter is that most boats are between 18 and 23 feet... the larger boats are in the minority.

That being said, it is kind of BS to have the 38 foot boats running around down on the strip... but to each his own.

It gives us something to argue about on hotboat though.. :D

Im not arguing that big boats are good or bad...  I dont really care, except when they are doing 100 racing and try to run me over, or force me to yeild in self preservation.

They are mostly great lookin boats...  And more money than my house.

Mainly I was curious what the average boat size was on this board... (Sorry my masters was in statistical analysis :beat )

Sorry, I thought you were asking the root of the argument. :fight  :beat  :fight

Getting ready to buy an 18' boat.

The 20' that I'm after I can't find for sale used very often.  I'm just biding my time till one comes up, or I get enough money saved to go buy a new one.     :good

OK, I'll whip it out: its 23'. :D

But I get to chime in also...its not so much that the bigger boats are the problem, I think its the guy driving it. Last weekend some knucklehead in a 35' + number comes blasting by squeezing between several other boats which were all travelling at about 35-40 mph on a relatively narrow section of the river...so he barges through pulling a huge wake because he's not up on plane yet and all the 20 footers start rolling all over the place....his wake finally subsides and then the butt head comes to a dead stop and turns abeam to the traffic!! :stupid
He's looking for a place to beach and everyone had to avoid this turd!

And I won't even mention the rocket scientist who pulls into Topock with a 40' somethin' Ciggarette and expects to fins a slip big enough...jeesh he can't even turn around in there without clearing the marina! :angry

Now a 40' something in Topack is just being a dick...  Everything has to stop in there for 20-30 minutes just to accomodate him/her...   :flamed

I allways get a kick out of the 30ft plus boats with seating for 5-6 people. And there's no way to get in them in the water :stupid without a ladder. It would be interesting to see a size limit on the river somewhere around 23-25ft max :good I see myself becoming one of the Moofers if I keep going to the river, the lower river seems to be a small boat paradise........for now :D

And I'll chime in with a 20 footer ;)

And the wife digs it :bebe
:D  :D  :D
.
Not to be offensive or anything but the big boats have little versatility other than going fast and looking sweet. As KC says a 40' with 6 seats, seems overkill to me. I know a person or two that has their big boat and a smaller one for days to have fun with the family.
Try pulling your kids around on a tube in a protected bay with your 35-40 footer ...uh, uh ain't happenin'. :peace

I loved my 20.5, but I went to the 23.5 for a better ride. I would say, if set side by side, the 20.5 with the 270hp 350sbc would have out run the 23.5 with the 300hp 454bbc, water permitting.

19.5 feet...  I have a quick question and hopefully someone will know this.  My boat is a 1994 dana 19.5ft and i was comparing it to another boat which was a 21ft boat.  And my was just as long as his.  i heard that for the older boats the manufacturer measured from bow to stearn and that newer boats, some of the manufacturers measured from the bow to the end of the swim step..is that true??

Yep, especially if the swim step is part of the mold (i.e. not a bolt on teak step or the like).

It's usually refered to as "Swim step envy", and then they get to charge an extra 10K for the "extra" 2 feet...  :rolleyes
