| Quote (GoFastRacer @ July 25 2005,5:53 am) | Mac, you are kidding right. Besides Spybot and AdAware, Yahoo has a good free program called Anti-Spy that works great. But if you have Win98 you need to get a Firewall, XP has one built in and it cuts 95% of the BS out but you still can bring the crap in without knowing it!.. Store bought puters come with a "Recovery" CD with everything on it(hate them fkn things)and usually they have a "Repair" funtion that can get you running again without formatting, then you can run software to clean it up.. Another area that needs attention now is the Registry, spyware takes over that part and even running AdAware and the others, the Registry is still fkd up!. You can download a trial version of "Registry Mechanic" and run it to clean it up, be surprised how it will run afterwards. Then run Scandisk and Derfag, you'll think it's a new machine!..
BTW, Norton is the worst thing you can have, you think pop ups are bad, Norton will completely take over your computer on ya and it will drive you nuts!.. McAffee is pretty good, but you can get a free one (AVG)that's just as good with free updates!.. |
I agree  Art's got it nailed (Once again  )
And espcially on the Norton thing.  I've been in this business for a year or two  and never liked Norton, nor will I ever.  Like GFR said, I use AVG Antivirus myself and it catches everything and doesn't slow down my computer like Norton would.... I also use Spybot and Popup Stopper.  All 3, AVG, Spybot, and Popup Stopper, are free programs that you can download.
And, just for the record here, the "oneclicksearch.com" consistently coming up in your browser is more common than you think. Â It is one of the top 3 spyware strings there is. There are a few easy fixes for it, but it usually requires editing the registry....something I wouldn't recommend for someone that isn't familiar with registry editing. I use the internal commands for registry editing, but there are a few programs out there that let you edit it....
