TRI-STATE - Leaders in Bullhead City and Laughlin are ecstatic that the President has signed into law a multi-billion dollar transportation budget that allocates $21-million for construction of a second Colorado River bridge that would better link the inter-dependant communities. "I think it's very exciting," said Bullhead City Mayor Diane Vick. "It's something that's been needed for a very long time, and something that should have been done a very long time ago." Laughlin Town Manager Jackie Brady has said the bridge could cost up to $60-million to construct depending on where it is placed. "But this is an excellent start," Brady said of the initial appropriation. A consultant next spring begins environmental assessment and other study effort to help guide the bridge site selection process. Initial construction could begin within three years with completion expected in 2008. Vick, Brady and others are worried that the Laughlin bridge that currently links the communities is already over congested and that safety concerns will only magnify in coming years.
