My wife hates the heat, and kids don't enjoy it much either. I know the lake or river is relief, but can only make it out 1 or 2 weekends a month. So I'm looking for a new area to move to. One that's cooler, has trees and water close by, and a low cost of living. My question is--->Where the hell do I go? I was looking at Klamath Falls OR, the wife wants to go to Montana.

Sacramento area is nice, gets a little warm but not as hot as the PHX area. And water everywhere. :good Moving to Oregon is trading the heat for rain. BBT moved up there and he seems to like it :) Vegas is warm but not for as long. Here local you've got Prescott, Payson, or Flagstaff(where you get all 4 Seasons) Remember if you move some place too damp and cool its going to be bug and mold city :eek  :guns

My choices are Vegas, Sacramento, or the Kona coast of the Hawaii :love

Go for Sacramento.. You can get a nice house outside of downtown for a fair price.  And there are rivers that go everywhere and tons of cool boaters!  But it does get a little warm during the summer (maybe 104)  but thats cold compaired to AZ...

Good Luck!

Montana.... brrrrrrrrrrrrr.... you're trading the heat for cold going that far north.  Hope your wife likes shoveling snow.  :D

Depending on what you do for a living and job availability, I would recomend Southwest Colorado, or even Grand Junction, CO.

St. George Utah doesn't seem to bad either.

Western Washington is pretty nice as well.

Housing prices have exploded in St. George during the last 3 years, however the boating opportunities as well as the weather are terrific. A couple nice local lakes are very handy, Lake Mead is 1 1/4 hours to the south and Lake Powell is 3 hours to the east. :good

The wife likes snow, but I don't. Would like to get back into a rural setting, little or a lot more laid back depending the area. Currently I'm an automotive R&D Tech and have been for 7 years now, but will have to take a normal job (in the automotive field) most places that I might want to go. Keep the suggestions comming :good

Well he did say j/k  ;) I've always wanted to live down on the Redneck Riviera. Got family both in the Mobile area and on the Panhandle of Florida. But these storms here lately are really changing my mind.

Between Klamath Falls and Sacramento you have Shasta Lake which is a monster. Fingers everywhere. I just drove through there a couple weeks ago. Man, I would love to bring my boat there.

If you are thinking about moving to California I would suggest Galt, Chico area or Redding.  I have a friend who lives in Galt, 15 minutes from Sacratomato, 45 minutes to Wimpys on the Delta and less than an hour from New Hogan and Comanche reservoirs.
Galt gets the Delta breeze which keeps the heet down on certain days.  It seems to me like you need to take a road trip soon. :good

I grew up in a small town called Quincy Ill. Nice place to raise kids. Four seasons, very much a farm town type atmosphere.  Can boat on the Mississippi river or better to go south to the Ozarks.  The local paper is called the hearld wig I believe it is on line.

Well my one of my brothers lives in Redding (well acyually red bluff), but too expensive for me. I hear it's a little cheaper north of there.
