I'll try to keep this short but brief, you know, in a nut shell.
Last Aprill I fried the brakes on the trailer. Did some resurch and decided to trade the drums for disc. I ordered all the needed parts for the axl and the actuator on the tounge. Once I got it all to gether, Bled the brakes. I went a bout 3 mile tour to put gas in the boat to find the bearing buddies gone. No worries there the ones that I had before the rebuild. Put the stamp steal covers on that came with the rotors and put about 35 miles on the trailer. Bought new bearing buddy's, rechecked the bearings and installed the new buddies.Went in real snug. 6miles from home on the way to Saquaro to get the boat wet. I look in the mirror to see one of my new buddies skate accross 4 lanes of freeway. Continued to lake. On the way home making a left turn I noticed a wobble in the wheel (said to self... I don't like this). So I got to checking to find that not only was the wheel flange not true but the wheel bolt pattern was not centered to the hub. Called the place I got the parts from and was told another set of hubs will be shipped. 2 weeks went buy but now Katrina hit and they were right smack in the path. 3 weeks went by before contact was made and was told again parts will be shipped. after a few weeks of this I finaly got the parts Oct 12. This past weekend was the first I was able to check the parts out and they have the same run out as the first set. Bearings don't make a difference. The center of the hub runs true. but when you get out to the studs there not centered to the center of the hub. I have emailed pics from this last saturdays findings and have asked to get the manufacture involved. If I don't hear from them in a day of so I will be making calls both to the manufacturer and to the place I bought them from.
Right now my boating season is done, so I have all winter to fight this out. I hope it doesn't get that far but I'm real tired of seeing my boat trailer on jackstands. Going back to drum is NOT an option. When I towed this around, It stoped SOOO much better with the disc.
If you folks want to see pics, I will be more than happy to post tonight what I have of both sets of disc/hubs and the findings.

Only thing is, I don't know if I would trust the bug brakes after sitting all these years.

I called a few places around here for the same parts. For what I paid no one around here could come even close. I paid about $390 for rotors, seals and bearings, calipers w/hose and mounts, master cylender, reveres solinoid, and a rebuild kit for the actuator. That also included shipping. Everyone I called was $100 more for the same parts. I'm sure a local supplier can help, But I would think that they won't take in trade for warrenty what I bought els where.

Just a quick update.
I finaly was able to talk to a rep from Tie Down. What a freaking joke!!! With out going into details. I have boxed both sets of rotors, calipers w/mounts and hardware awaiting return tags from Champion Trailers. I'm currently looking at a set of rotors and calipers from Kodiac. If anyone has any suggestions or contacs, not just for Kodiacs, I'm open for suggestions.

are you gonna spend that extra 100? or are the new ones the same price? |
Kodiac setup at Centurey rim and Wheel I'm looking at is about $280 including bearings and seals. That covers both wheels. The Tie Down setup of the same equipment was about $200. That looks to be the rout I will go unless I find a better price on the Kodiacs somewhere els.
