Ok Heres the senario...  I am planning to propose to my  beautiful fellow riverrat other half fairly soon.  I am flying up to ask dad for permission next week, I have the ring (cost me more than my boat  :eek ) and I had wanted to propose at the river...  But I realize that it is freekin cold and the water is too low...

So I am asking all of you for some other ideas!  Creative, funny, anything.. I want this to be great, but not cheezy or standard, like in a restaurant!

Thank you for your advice and help in advance..  And heres a picture if it helps  :D

Very cool thing to do by asking her father!! Try asking her on the beach. Remember to get on one knee and then ask her. She should love that.

Pretty classy of you to get the fathers ok first...my in-laws were asking me when...LOL
.
My wife was kinda expecting to have the question popped on the anniversary of us dating but I just played it off.....my birthday was about 10 days later and she'd taken me on a dinner cruise in San Diego harbor. With the band right there playing a soft song for me I asked her for one last birthday wish(she was expecting me to ask for a message :rolleyes  :laugh ) which was for her to share her life with me.
Caught her off-gaurd and boy was she surprised..... :good  :jumpie  :good
.
I think women appreciate more when they are not expecting it.

That sounds really cool  :good

It is sorta hard to get ready to propose without asking and talking about those big marrage questions first. So I would have to say that she is tipped off :(  But you have to ask what the other person's expectations and future goals are with marrage first!

But I would really like it to be a supprise!  Thats sorta also why a winter river trip would be a dead givaway!!!

But I am still thinking!!!  Maybe newyears...  But we are just hanging out at the house with some friends... But that might be cool???  Dunno...

Well I'm not sure what to tell you on being romantic, I had a ring hidden in the house (we were already living together) and brought it out on Valentines day and asked her. Kinda boring but she did say yes, been married almost 15 years now.

Anyhow, congrats to you and best of luck, marriage is a wonderful thing... :good

True story kinda cheesy but I was 23 then. I was at work and i called my girlfriend/wife then, told her somebody left something in my boat under my seat. Well I had the ring hidden under there since she is a very thorough cleaner and would have found it in the house. I was plannibng a romantic dinner since we were already living together. Anyway when she did find it it was a total surprise. Going on ten years married now and have had our share of problems but she still loves the way I did it. By the way I was really nervous, thinking to myself I'm gonna be with this woman for the rest of my life. :D

Good Stuff  :good  Good Stuff  :good Congrats on your happy marrage!  I wish others that arent happy their marrage wouldnt bash it!  But Ohh well, they probly went in with the wrong mindset...

:D Maybe the key to a happy marrage is the RIVER
:D It is both of our favorite things to do!

The first order of business is to buy some property out there :)

I proposed to my wife on the cliff overlooking Corona Del Mar at sunset.  It went really well.....LOL....she said yes of course.  We then headed to The Spaghetti Factory for a nice dinner, just the two of us.  She was gleaming the rest of the weekend!  I used to live in Orange, but we both now live in Oregon.  I kinda planned asking her down there, and having the nice/romantic setting was a hit.  Good luck McCord........just try to be thoughtful, and original.  Hope you two have a great life together!!   :beer

On my wedding day, my father took me aside and told me:
"Love is like a burning flame, but marriage is the whole goddamn fire department."       :flamed
Take it for what it's worth. That was 1978 and we're still goin strong.
Best of luck to the both of you.

Gumball Machine....  Thats is a really creative and cool way...

I think I have made my decision......  I am going to rent a condo in rosarito beach (Where I frequent) for new years.  Take her out to a private/nice restaurant that I know of that is really nice where it is all wood, and your meat is cooked over a wood grill.  Get the booth take a walk on the beach afterwards and pop the question when it feels right :)

Now I just have to call her boss to get her the time off with out her knowing it was me :)

I did it at Christmas (primarily because I'm terrible with dates), I wanted to hide it in a gift for her, but all she wanted was some nice leather boots....so I dropped the ring into one of the boots before I wrapped them up.

When she tried them on - just as I had planned, she said,"something's in there" and pulled out the ring...that was 14 years ago. And I remember it like it was yesterday.

The beach is a great idea too....I know someone who did it quite nicely...arrange to have someone lurking in the distance with a camera with a good telephoto lens. when you turn to ask her with the sun setting in the backround that picture will be priceless!  :good
