Got home yesterday and my internet is down :cry . Comcast can't get anyone out till Friday :banghead Tried the phone help guys :comp  they are clueless. I'm thinking my RCA cable modem is on the fritz :break Looking at my device manager its only showing a Lucent modem no RCA. But the "add hardware" even with the disc ain't seeing nothing :angry

I may take the network down and just go direct to the main computer ethernet card. I'm getting no USB activity on the modem diagnostics off the RCA CD.

I hate computers :guns  :guns  :drama

I'm thinking of trying a new modem tonight, so that would be less than 48 hours :comp If I wait for Comcast it will be Friday afternoon. Waiting for them Friday is not how I want to start a 4 day weekend.  :drink

Saw those cable modem/wireless router they are the sh!t right now thats for sure, linysys is supposedly Cisco :good But at $170 +/- it would have to be a gift from Santa. Wait I am Santa :D  :laugh

Its the RCA 305 :cry Its got 5 lights. Internet, pc connect, cable activity, ????. and message. The only one thats lit now is internet and its flashing. It wont cycle to start up after reseting powering it down or when Comcast tried over the net.

It could be the card.....you could pop open the case, re-seat the card, and see if Windows will recognize it.... :good

It could also be the power supply to the modem itself.  It's lit up, but the voltage may not be there to drive the signal....had something similiar happen.....$10 power supply fixed it.... :good

Your device manager is showing a modem, prob. the internal/analog one on the machine.  The device manager does not see the cable modem, as it feeds into the 'net card.

These RCA modem are a dime a dozen on Ebay, I'm really leaning towards the modem/router combo. I'll try resetting the card and if Windows don't see it :alien  I may move my Sony in there and see what it does :stupid

Or let Mr. Comcast give it a go. Its funny when they show up they start with the ole "Have you cked all the connections" speal. Then I tell them all the crap I've tried :break Most of them laugh.           Well actually all of them do :D

On our stuff the Internet light blinks while it is syncs up and then goes solid meaning that the modem is lined up to the first piece of equipment towards our network. The ethernet net light will do the samething when it starts talking to the ethernet card. Like Shu said the ethernet card has  status lights on it too that you can check. If you think that you might have a software prob that just popped up in the past couple of days you might be able to restore your computer (system tools/system restore) back to a date prior to the prob (cheesey but it could work).

Yeah from what I remember the internet light is solid when its working right. And I allready cheesed out on a system roll back to Saturday when it was working fine, but no changes. I think I might swap my other system onto the modem and see what it does :break

Well it acts the same way with either computer, so I'm guessing the modem took a chit. we'll let the Comcast guy figure it out tomorrow.

So Comcast showed up did some song and dance about my signal being to hot, took my booster out, change some cables. put some balancers in.  :sleep Still didn't work :angry So they take down my network still not working. Finally changed out the modem and wow it worked, focking retards I told them it was the modem when they started. :guns  

So I'm back here at the house :jumpie  but now I have to reconfigure my network cause they wouldn't mess with it since its not their equipment.  :banghead
