Â Has anyone ever driven the 395 from the 15 all the way to Mammoth? I was thinking of going that way today instead of up the 405... Just wanted to find out what the road was like, 2 lane or whatever... Any input would be helpful... Sorry it's not very on topic for a boat website.... LOL!

Every year. It is 2 lane all the way to just past Ridgecrest. But there are passing lanes going up the hills. Then it is divided 4 lane highway the rest of the way. It is a good road, but BORING until you get to Olancha which is just south of Owens Dry Lake. I would highly recommend finding time to stop at Manzanar (Near Lone Pine) where there was a Japanese-American concentration camp during WWII. It is very moving. There is also a great restaurant on the west side (blue building, can't remember the name) that advertises Buffalo burgers on the outside wall. They have awesome burgers and lots of Lone Pine movie memorablilia.

Thanks sooooo much! I'm off to Mammoth today, just couldn't imagine going the way we usually go, which is up the 405 to the 14! YIKES! With Friday traffic... I figure we will hit traffic anyway but nothing like the traffic through Palmpton...

Yes sir, I've driven that road about a 1,000 times, from the 15 until you hit Ridgecrest the road is primarliy 2 lane but, there are quite a few passing lanes that Cal Trans has built into the road, they did this a few years back because there were quite a few deadly accidents due to people taking chances. The road is 1,000,000 times better then it was even 5 years ago.

Its a great way to go!!! Â Just watch out... Â Once the road splits so the oppsing trafic is on a different level, and it is a two lane road... Â

The police like to hang out Â in the gaps between the road... And Nail quite a few people!!!

Just took that route Thursday and yesterday coming home.........I hadn't taken it in years. Some changes but still much as I remembered....biggest change is the seperated 2 lanes where the 14 comes in up to Lone Pine.........that used to be the fun whoopty-doo part :good

I hated the traffic coming home trying to get down the cajon...took nearly an hour to get to the 215/15 split from the 395/15.

How was the skiing on Saturday? We went to June because of the gnarely winds on Friday in Mammoth.
