Our Yamaha jetboat has cleanout plugs that allow you to check inside the bowl, the shaft (heh, heh he said shaft), and remove any debris, etc.  We pull them every day to dry, like pulling the plug.

So the wife is going to drive the boat from the launch to the beach, approx. 2 miles downroad.  Drop her in the water, drop the trailer in the lot, and head to the beach.

WTF....where is she...??   :rolleyes   Head back to the launch and, yes, I didn't put the cleanout plugs back in.... :eek  No bowl pressure, floating, oar in hand... :banghead   I'm dead meat..... :D

Sitting at the bar at Roadrunner,,, watching people that launch their boat that forgot to insert their drain plugs,, then looking over at my boat tied to the RR's dock,, thus realizing that the bildge pump has been running continously for 20 minutes,, and my boat is sitting lower in the water.

Backing the boat on the trailer into the water,,,, and I'm sitting at the boats steering wheel while the GF is backing us in the water,, and I'm steering the boat still sitting on the trailer backing like it means something,,
Like the kid with the fake steering wheel on their car seat.

Sometime on the launchramp,, notice how many people do that,,,

Well you want to talk "embarassment" get a load of this!. Was at a race(NJBA)and for some resaon it wasn't a big turnout like usual so they had a litle extra time, so without warning they came on the speaker and asked if anybody wants a short test and tune session to get them wet "now". So I said hell yeah let's do it so now is crash program getting the boat ready and off to the launch ramp we go, get to the ramp (gotta remember there is a crowd watching)warm up the motor, get suited up, back in the water and push off the trailer, shut the motor off, throw it in gear, start the motor and nail it, ZINGGGG rpm to the moon and I didn't move an inch, anybody guess what I forgot to do??. :laugh  :laugh

That's right with all the rush I forgot to put the F****N prop on!.. :banghead  :banghead  I tell ya, I felt like just going to the bottom and stay there for the weekend!.. :laugh  :laugh Needless to say I heard about that one for a while, even our friendly announcer asked me over the speaker at the next race if I remembered to put the prop on before I launched!.. :rotflmao

In the old jetboat I had the flush out hosejoint that seperated to hook up your garden hose.........well I left that coupling apart and launched the boat. Wife sat out there idling around for 10-15 minutes while I parked, all the while unknowingly pumping water into the bilge. I was about to jump in the boat and my daughter asked why her feet were getting wet...........
EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKK---- :eek  :eek
POp open the hatch and find its just pumping the water in bilge and not the motor, engine was making that "tinking" hot sound.
I thought for sure I was SOL.....pulled the boat right onto the concrete ramp before it sank, watched the bilge pump out for 20 minutes or so, hooked up the hose sustaining only one burn mark on my arm in the process. Engine fired right up, ran without a flaw for many years to follow.
Of course this happened to me at the Windsor ramp :rolleyes

Another jewel, After a long day of boating its time for dinner, everyone else wants to take the cars cause its dark, I want to take the boat. Me and a few peeps jump in the boat and we are idling thru the marina area and I pick up on a landmark and start heading towards the dock by the restraunt. The boat starts to slow down like I'm running into something. So of course I give it some more gas and it keeps moving but still somethings not right. I hit it pretty good and then I relize I'm getting stuck on a sandbar type deal that sticks out on this point that I thought I was going around :eek  instead I went over it. Water was about 6-8 inches deep. Needless to say I caught a bit of grief for that stunt :beat  :fight

And of course alcohol was a major factor  :(  :drink  :drama

Probably the most idiotic stunt I ever pulled was on the river at Fisher's Landing several years ago.

I was driving my friend's Tahiti jet, really haulin' ass while he and the other guys were kicking back and drinking their brews.

Greg - "Bob, watch that sandbar just under the water."

Me - "Huh?"

Greg - "Sandbar."

Me - "Huh?"

Greg - "There's a sandbar, don't hit it!!!"

Me - "Huh?"

Greg - "There's a sandbar right in front of........"

WHOMP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greg - "OK, dumbass, :laugh you can get out and push while we sit in here and drink beer."

I was pushing that damn thing for half an hour. :angry

I'm a member of the NDP club (no drain plug) and the usual stuff you see on the ramp....

...but the best I can remember recently happened to a buddy. We were up at San Antonio and everything was going fine. The new prop he ordered had arrived the day before we left so he was all stoked. Launched the boat...he floated off the trailer, put it in reverse ay idle and hit the trailer. Thought maybe the wind blew him forward so he punched it in reverse.....you guessed it, they sent the wrong prop - left hand instead of right :eek  :eek

A friend of mine, the G/F's oldest daughter and myself went to the lake. My friend launched us(me and the g/f's daughter) and we idled away from the ramp. I decided to put the bimini upand walked to the back of the boat, and you guessed it, it's taking on water. That's when I noticed the drain plug still hanging on the keys. :banghead  I turned the bilge pump on and headed back towards the ramp, where of coarse other boats were being launched. I yelled at a guy that was in a boat that was on its way into the water to catch my boat, as I waved the plug in my hand. He jumped out of the baot he was in and caught the bow of mine as I went out the back to put the plug in. Needless to say, I had a captive audience. The friend of mine came down just in time to catch the end of the circus act, and just laughed at me too..... :laugh

I did a handstand on my steering wheel once long ago. :eek  In those days, I was usually the only one in my crew with a boat, so I was used to being heavily loaded.  After I dropped everyone, the chairs, and the cooler off at the beach, I took off solo to pick up more peeps at the ramp. (I can't believe I used to do that :rotflmao )  Anyway, my little boat was much lighter and more responsive without my usual load.  Soon after I nailed it, I hit a wake at an odd angle and became airborne. :eek  I held on for dear life.  The boat came down faster than I did, but I still had ahold of the wheel.  At this point I was doing a handstand and life went into slow motion.  I thought "Uh-oh, this is embarrassing." :rotflmao

My first River trip ever with my old boat, we arrived at Squaw Lake lower part of Martinez Lake, unloaded all of our camping gear and decided we were going to head out onto the River to see if we could find our friends, got through the mile long no woke zone and made an immediate left hander heading up river, not 10 seconds into the ride the boat stops immediately the out drive kicks up and the boat is filled with mud, I managed to run a top the biggest sandbar on the lower river. The embarassing thing was that it was the time of day when most people were returning from up river so they went screaming buy laughing and pointing at us. I hit the beer pretty hard that night... :beer

I just took the boat out of winter storage and went to Lake Pudding Stone just to make sure everything runs fine before I go on a week long trip.  I launch the boat with 2 friends for couple of hours without any problems.  Then we decide to put the boat back on the trailer.  I back the trailer up and my friend puts the boat on the trailer nice and easy.  I hook up the winch strap to the bow, then I jump in my truck and start to pull forward.

Then I hear my friend (whos still in the boat) screaming STOP!

I look back and theres my boat still in the water with the truck half way up the ramp and the winch strap stretched all the way out.   :stupid  I forgot to lock the winch strap so the boat just slid off the trailer.  :eek   While there was a slight crowd on the lake.  Its a good thing it wasn't during summer.  :D

Shhhhhhhhhh......don't tell anyone.  :laugh  :laugh

FIrst trip ever to Majave about 4 years ago.  Met a freind in telegraph cove.  got the boat all ready and backed in to the water with a guy giving me crap that I will never get the boat out with 2 wheel drive. Told the wife that once its floating to go ahead and fire it off and drive off. I sat there for several minutes and there she still sat. I get out and she yells "It won't move". OH CRAP!!! wade back to the trailer. hook the boat back up and tell her to hang on.   Out of the water we went.  Turned and laughed at the dude giving me shit as I walk back to remove the drive blockers off the drive rams.  :banghead  Well it was the first trip with them on.  :laugh   :rotflmao

Oh and truck never hesitaed either time getting the boat out.  :good
