Zig: I've was dating the squeeze (among other girls too) for about a year while she was going through brutal turmoil with an ex boyfriend. I didn't want to rev up the relationship until I could clearly see she was really over him. Though I stick up for her.
I really liked her, crazy about her in in fact, and could see this is going to go places. Ya know when ya hit it right. Perfect couple everyone says,, and we feel that way too.
Convinced she's over the ex BF,, and some time has passed with me liking her even more,, we stepped up the relationship for the next 6 months.
Then, for another 6 months she's been living with me and as you know, we plan to get married this April.
She asked me.
Her parents are ancient fossils, difficult people that took a liking to me right away.
I get flattering letters about me every other day from them. Both e mail and snail mail.
The squeezes middle name was her maiden last name, and it caught my attention, and it just recently dawned on me that ya usually only see this in Blue Bloods, especially if it's a familiar last name. Plus her parents would use blue blood terms like: "She reached her potential",, make sure the kids do too.
OK getting to the point:. I get this letter from her dad that says: "He keeps a poor Door", another "Blue Blood" term,, and wanted me to be the head of the family, and give the squeeze her inheritance on our wedding, rather than wait until he dies, which he expects over the next 2 years. He's death sucking on a lifesaver.
The inheritance is ample to say the least, the family name, turns out,, a household word.
OK,, Honest,, I stumbled in this love blind,, had no clue. Her backround blindsided me.
So I ask the squeeze about her dads offer, and she says "sure, that's fine with her. They're cutting her big checks quarterly anyway, may as well take it all now."
OK,, so then,, the parents have strings attached. Certain friends they want her to ride herself of. Nice friends, nothing to be alarmed about that I can see. But the old man wrote me insisting on my guarantees that certain good friends of hers will be banished.
Then I discover the Fossil parents are doing a backround check on me,, and an assets check.
I was shocked,, and I did get pissed.
Should I call them on this,, or ignor it,, or cooperate? It really irritates me, but maybe the best thing is just ignor it all,, but:
I've got nothing to hide, but they asked for my SSN,,, and in the letter asking for it,, they had info that they could have only been discovered through an assets check.
I feel bad that on one hand they patronize me in letters ,, then on the other they're secretly looking for dirt.
I fully planned on us supporting ourselves on our already good incomes & lifetime benefits,, and now I feel like I'm falling for the carrot on a string trick.
Call the old man on secretly invading my privacy,, or cooperate and leave sleeping dogs lay?
Will this just keep escalating and more demands will come along,, with the fossils controlling us?
