If the service was ok I always tip 10%, if really good then 15%.

Alice said that sux,, and she says I should be tipping at least 15 % and then juice it to 20 %+ if awsum.

I did it again and:

Yesterday she told me at a restaurant: "We've had this conversation before."

WTF,, what's the norm??

You that work tipping positions,, how do you tip?:

It is a reward for good service.... normally 15%, less sometimes if they suck, more if they are better...

Double the sales tax, its easy.

we eat out at work a lot, we have regular spots, they get great tips or we find new spots, so I guess the answer is find better spots and tip well 15% min.

15% if the service is good and 20% if it is VERY good, if it is just okay then it is between 10 and 12%...

My wife is the Banquets Manager here at the Casa Blanca Hotel-Casino and these are her recommendations;

If you're at a buffet where the servers just bring your drinks and clear the plates, $1.00 per person in your group.

Most restaurants where the server does everything, food, drinks and clears plates, 15 to 20% depending on how you like the service.

Upscale restaurants, 20 to 30% mainly because the food server has to portion out their tips to the folks who bring your beverages and clear your table.

If you don't like the server, but the bus person treated you well, tip the bus person discreetly a couple of bucks and leave the server a lousy tip or nothing.

Do you tip your Barber and why?

I've always tipped my Barber even though I never understood the concept of tipping them.  :stupid

I started working as a busboy while I was in junior high...moved up to waiter while in high school and after college managed a restaurant/nightclub.

I don't usually go to places that suck, but even in the good ones you can find someone who's having a bad day.

Maybe it's just me, but I rarely get bad service. Maybe it's because I speak to the server, not at them.

My basic tip is 20%.
If they were great, suggested something new perhaps or was extra nice to the entire table, 25.

I tip the girl that cuts my hair, the newspaper phantom (I never see him) and the mailman gets a nice gift at holiday time, heck I even gave the UPS guy a $25 Ralph's card (we see him often).  :peace

I think our tax is 7.6% around here and I usually double it or a little more unless they piss me off and use that as my baseline. I am usually not that hard to please; I try to understand that a lot of the people in that service industry don't get paid very well for some of the crap they have to put up with.

That about sums it up right there........ :good
.
What bugs me is the places that have gratuity already added to the bottom line and then still expect more. :rolleyes

Full service should be full service.  If it sucks, we never return...no matter the quality of the meal.
