Alcohol Ban In Channel? LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - The Lake Havasu City Council may take action tonight and impose a total ban against alcohol consumption in the Bridgewater Channel. The votes seem to be there to do just that. However, Councilwoman Margaret Nyberg is totally opposed to making any changes and will vote accordingly. She wants a continuation of strict law enforcement, but no ban. Nyberg told TSN, “I don’t want everybody to suffer just because of those people with bad behavior. We can control their bad behavior, turn things around and let everybody enjoy the channel.†She also doesn’t object to making travel through the channel one-way only. That’s the only change she’d support. Regardless, the full council seems determined to make other changes in current policy. Nyberg also believes budget talks should get interesting during tonight's council meeting. She says Mayor Harvey Jackson has proposed to cancel a tradeoff agreement between the City and the School District, which provides the district with adequate water and the Parks and Rec Department with buildings for things like the after-school programs. “Where are these children supposed to go? “Many of the parents are using this for their daycare after work. Do we want these children to be out on their own walking the streets, this is criminal,†she said. The council will meet at 7:00 pm tonight

News update:
LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - Without the decisive vote of newly resigned Councilman Bob Crabtree, the Lake Havasu City Council could not agree last night on a partial banning of alcohol in the Bridgewater Channel. Val Striyle joined forces with Councilwomen Cindy Aldridge and Margaret Nyberg to vote “nay†with Mayor Harvey Jackson and councilmen Bruce Hinman and Allan Sturtevant voting “aye†regarding two attempts at certain bans on London Bridge Park. Jackson would still like some action taken regarding alcohol enforcement in the channel, but that will have to be for the future. Police Chief John Alexander told TSN he needs to know what the council wants in regard to enforcement of an alcohol ban on London Bridge Beach. He said, “the city ordinance says no alcohol in city parks. I wanted the council to say one way or another if alcohol is allowed in London Bridge Beach.†Alexander noted a stalemate took place last night and things remain unresolved.
Spring Breaks Into Summer LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - Spring started just a few weeks ago, but temperatures are heading for summery weather over the next several days. They're expected to reach the mid-90's this afternoon. Forecasters expect the Tri-State area's first 100-degree day tomorrow. Friday, a low pressure system is expected to move through the area, bringing the possibility of some much needed rain showers for the region and temperatures should drop just in time for the weekend.

I don't understand the problem with banning alcohol from the channel. As I understand it, the ban is effective from the waterline. Drinking on your boat or in the water shouldn't be affected, right? I still think it'll still come down to enforcement issues, though.

If you are not driving, it still becomes a dui issue. |
? If you are anchored, I'm sure passengers can drink on board, as can the driver (up to .08). How can someone not driving get a DUI (driving under the influence)? I can see drunk in public. The point I was making is that if whatever the council passes stops at the waterline, what happens on board doesn't apply to that ordinance.

True, with the hassle it will do what they want, stop drinking and stop people from coming.
I would rather have them drink there than were I am, we have enough already.
