Lights, Camera, Action PARKER, AZ – The Parker Police Department is stepping it up a notch. The Small department received a grant from the Governors Office of Highway Safety to placing digital cameras in 5 patrol cars. Spokeswoman Stephanie McDowell says utilizing digital technology will help make officers' jobs a little safer. “If they [criminals] are being videotaped, they kind of think twice about doing whatever they were thinking about doing - like assaulting the officer,†said McDowell. McDowell says the new cameras, which record directly to DVD, will make storage and courtroom use of video evidence much easier while reducing the amount of time needed to convert files for viewing. The department also received a grant recently from the National Department of Homeland Security to purchase and fully equip a new cruiser. A second grant application has also been submitted in the hopes of purchasing another vehicle for the department.
