Due to terminal boredom (and the wife knows it keeps me off the streets), I'm buying another project. She thought we were out of room, but she was thinking CAR! She didn't suspect another boat. This one is ill handling and beats the crap out of you, but are relatively rare and (IMHO) very cool. It's a 1969 19' Stevens flatbottom jet. It has 2 things going for it.... cool bench seating, and a forward/reverse lever on the dash! Doesn't get more old school than this. Â Ford 390, with a Berkeley pump, and TONS of original Edelbrock hardware to polish!

Well, I did a thorough inspection last night, and I found a few things. The glass has seperated from the stringers, but they don't appear to be rotted. More importantly, it has glass tanks, and they would HAVE to go. The really intriguing thing is the paint is chipped in places, and peeking thru is some BIG gold metalflake! I'm toying with the idea of using a mild paint stripper and trying to take the paint off and (hopefully) reveal the original gel. The FE motor is more reliable than a Chevy, so I'm not concerned about that. The owner admitted he isn't mechanically inclined and the reason he parked it is because he replaced the starter and solenoid and when he hooked up the battery again, it sparked. I saw why last night.... he hooked a ground wire up to the + battery terminal. I'll post up some pics in a few. Talk about old school......

This is a 19, so maybe it'll be a bit more stable at speed. Last night was the first time my sons have seen true tiller steering.... they didn't know WHAT to make of it. I would be able to mount a diverter to it, I just don't know yet how much it would help.

I'm thinking that'll be the challenge with this boat..... airing it out just short of unloading the pump. Well, that and not swamping it... talk about freeboard challenged.....

| Quote (AZKC @ April 21 2006,12:18 pm) | Does it have skags on the bottom? If not well even if it does you drive it like a sprint car, just skippin sideways full lock power slids  its just much worse with no fins. MAke sure its got a BIG bilge pump. |
Sounds like it might require some OJT to execute a 180 on the river...

Fins on the intake and a steering fin in front of the pump. It'll still be just like taking a few laps on a slick track
