By DAVID BELL Monday, April 24, 2006 11:20 PM MDT
News-Herald PhotosNews-Herald Photo/ Dave Bell Almost done Get ready to say goodbye to slow speeds and bumpy rides across the London Bridge. City staff said Monday that work will wrap up this week on the repair project and that paving starts May 2. A change order through the sewer expansion project for about $250,000 was authorized by City Council in February for a temporary fix after bids on more permanent repairs to the bridge came in more than $300,000 over budget. This repair job is expected to last between five and 10 years, long enough for a second bridge to the Island to be built. The Mohave County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help in tracking down the operator of a boat involved in a hit-and-run accident Sunday that sent one man to the hospital.
The accident occurred at 3:47 p.m. near Site Five, also known as That Beach. A boat and personal watercraft collided, injuring the passenger on the PWC, George Joseph Hicinbothom, 34, of Lake Havasu City. Hicinbothom was brought in to Site Six by the PWC operator and transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center by a friend, before Lake Havasu City Fire personnel could respond. Hicinbothom suffered lacerations to the arm and was treated and released by the hospital.
The boat involved in the accident was described as gray and blue and was seen headed north without stopping following the accident. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Mohave County Sheriff's Office at (928) 753-0753.
The other water accident Sunday occurred north river, about one-quarter mile south of Topock Marina. At 9:20 a.m. a 21-foot Schiada Boat was involved in a single boat accident, sinking the boat and sending all five passengers - three female and two male, all from Torrance, Calif. - to the hospital.
Four victims were transported to Needles Hospital where two were admitted and two others treated and released. Guardian Air airlifted the other victim, Amanda Penny, 21, to University Medical Center in Las Vegas. She's currently listed in critical condition with unspecified injuries.
Both accidents remain under investigation; alcohol and speed may be a factor in the Topock incident.

This was posted by Squeezing Spectra. Amanda is a sweetheart and I think it would be good idea for the HD Crew to say a prayer or two for her.

I hope this isn't GlassMan's buddy. Â |
No Doug, fortunately not, but he did know them. I got a phone call Sunday about this accident.
Very sad indeed and my heart sank as I heard about it. I did meet Tony awhile back. I remember the boat, a 21' River Cruiser tunnel hull, blown I/O if my memory serves me correctly.
All I can think of is that a wind gust got up under there going through that wide open area south of the bridge?
They are all in my prayers.
