--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got a call early this morning from a friend that owns a local bar. His reach-in refer was down , so I stopped by and fixed a leak and re-charged it as a favor.
While I was working on it, he was next to me, doing an inventory on last nites empty booze bottles. He went through 2 bottles of Drambuie last nite.
Who drinks that stuff? I think sometimes if someone wants a rusty Nail,,, it's usually the slow moving back shelf stuff. Honey flavored Scotch.
Drambuie used to sponsor the Classic Marlin Fishing Tourney in Avalon, on Santa Catalina Island Calif. It was the lesser tourney, because the Gold Cup was the big tourney.
The Gold Cup folded after one of the founders/board members got hooked up and hauled off to the hole for child molestation of an 11 year old girl.
The wives in the group went ballistic when they got a hold of that info. Even though the jerk resigned from the Gold Cup, the wives and my daughter insisted we boycott it because they felt he was still gaining financially from it here and in Cabo where it was also held. Fair enough take by the girls.
So the Gold Cup folded and blew away like, as my daughter put it: "Horse$#!t in the wind".
So then, the lesser Drambuie Marlin Classic, always held some weeks later than the Gold Cup and not affiliated, took center stage on the island and it became the BFD Marlin Tourney.
About 6+ years ago we were there and the Drambuie company again rolled in the old man himself. They'd wheel him around to the different island bars and he'd raise a toast. Classic old Scotsman, thick accent you could cut with a chainsaw, the berret with the big knit ball on top,, the awsum cane w/a kilt.
The local Mexicans love the old buzzard and they'd have hilarious conversations cappin' each other back and fourth. The island bars would be on fire when they'd get on a roll. The Mexicans with their native quick wit exchanging barbs with the Old Jasper with his old school awsum sense of humor.
The Island would go through cases of Drambuie over the three days of the Classic.
Who drinks it? Waddaya mix it with?

Never had it. I've seen the bottle, but for some reason, never picked it up.

Drambuie is a golden liqueur based on the finest Scotch malt whisky, sweetened with a hint of heather honey and flavoured with herbs, prepared from a legendary secret recipe.

Never heard of it but now I know what it is.
Sounds tasty as an after dinner desert type drink.
