Anyone hear the New song by Big & Rich about Nov 8th? I am not a big fan of Big & Rich but I heard this song on XM this morning and it brought a tear to my eye with pride and reminded me of the sacrifice our young men in the armed forces make for this country. Perfect time to release such a powerful song. Hopefully you get a chance to hear it with the intro by Chris Christopherson. Its about the guy who gave big Kenny his top hat.

XM 16 I don't know the name of it but I would guess Nov 8th.
The DJ said it was a brand new release. Not likely to hear it on regular radio because they only play the same 10 songs all day. :D
I am all back into country music since I got back from Key West. They had the song writers festival going when I was down there and I got to hear the best of Nashville song writers sharing there stories behind the biggest hits on country. Really made me look at country music in a new light.
Pretty bitchen to just walk up and talk to people about there songs.

:)

Reminds me of the country music Dad used to play when just he and I would head out to Parker.  That seems so long ago.

Found the tab and words but I can't locate a link to the song itself.

Big & Rich: 8th Of NovemberChords Used  A1 G1 D1 F1
8th Of November - Big & Rich
Album: Comin' To Your City

Intro: A   G  D  (x2)

         A
Said goodbye to his mama as he left South Dakota
   G                            D
To fight for the red, white and blue
      A
He was 19 and green with a new M-16
     G                   D
Just doin' what he had to do
        A
He was dropped in the jungle where the choppers would rumble
         G                      D
With the smell of napalm in the air
         A                  G
Then the sergeant said, look up ahead

       A
Like a dark evil cloud 1200 came down
   G          D
On him and 29 more
      A
They fought for their lives but most of them died
      G         D
In the 173rd airborne

Chorus:
       A
On the 8th of November the angels were cryin'
        G                     D
As they carried his brothers away
         A
With the fire raining down and the hell all around
           G                          D
There were few men left standing that day
        F                   G
Saw the eagle fly through a clear blue sky
F  G                 A      G  D
1965, the 8th of November

    A
Now he's 58 and his ponytail's gray
        G                         D
But the battle still plays in his head
   A
He limps when he walks but he's strong when he talks
         G                   D
Bout the shrapnel left in his leg
       A
He puts on a gray suit over his airborne tattoo
       G                     D
And he ties it on one time a year
      A (one strum)
And remembers the fallin' as he order's a tall one
G                          D
Swallows it down with his tears

CHORUS

A   G  D

        F(one strum)        G (one strum)
Saw the eagle fly through a clear blue sky
F  G (one strum each)
1965

CHORUS x2 (1st 4 lines then whole thing)

         A
Said goodbye to his mama as he left South Dakota
   G                            D
To fight for the red, white and blue
      A
He was 19 and green with a new M-16
     G                   D
Just doin' what he had to do

I heard that song on the drive out to Needles Wed.

It brought a tear to my eye too, reminded me of my brother who dropped out of high school to join the Marines....I remember my Mom crying the day he left for Viet Nam.
