'sup Miller???

Got a Scotch question for you...

Finally started tasting single malts a while back... tried quite a few, liked most, some were terpentine, but I fell in love with Highland Park...

Being that I don't want to drink the same thing all the time, you know of any other single malts that are similiar that I might give a shot??

Highland Park is an Island Scotch from Orkney, All of the Islands are a little different. But The closest to that would be a Highland malt or a Speyside.

I would try:

Balvenie (Aged in two different types of barrels, very interesting flavor)
Macallan (Traditional Speyside malt)
Glenmorangie (Another Speyside, I like the "Burgundy wood finish verity)
Glenlevit (Traditional Speyside malt)
Dalmore (Highland)

Then when you tire of those I would lean towards the Islay malts. Islay is another Island and it is known for especially peaty malts. They are not for novice pallett, most people have to grow into them. But once that happens you will love them forever.

Laphroaig (Pronounced La-fro-aig)
Lagavoulin
bruicahladdie (I am sure that is spelled wrong)

I will warn you that drinking single malts can get really addicting! Cheers!  :good  :drink

Oh sorry for not responding sooner I kept getting distracted by lookylou's avitar!  :eek

Tell me about the single malts being addictive... I need to find cheaper pass times.  :rolleyes

Anywho, I've been picking up different bottles of single malts for last 6 months or so, trying to find something I really like.  Highland Park is the first that I haven't had to "learn" to appreciate, it was just about perfect the first time out of the bottle.

I was going to get a bottle of Glenmorangie next as it was, but thought I'd get an "expert's" opinion.

Thanks Brad.

Nice to see you here on the board for a little while... focker. :D

I've still got about half a bottle of Glennlivet 12 year in the cupboard... it's not that I don't like it, but it takes a little getting used to at first.

I tried a bottle of Macallan and it really didn't trip my trigger either.

Started out with a bottle of Glenfidich I got as a Christmas present, could take or leave that one as well.

I've had a few glasses of a couple other single malts, but off the top of my head I can't remember what they were.

Still have a bottle of Grouse on the shelf, just in case. :D

Had to go get a bottle of JW Green Lable when I found out they were on sale here in the US now.  That is an interesting Scotch... it's just a Malt scotch, blended, but with no grain whiskeys added.  Something different.

Yummy, Green...  We were drinking that at Mastro's one night.  Good stuff, but $25 a glass on the rocks.  Oh well, it's only money right??   :beer

Ouch... I can get an entire bottle of the stuff here in Tucson for about 50 bucks or so...

Haven't seen it in to many drinking establishments, might be worth 25 a glass if that's the case.
