the lack of RVs on the road. :confused

I drive about 2,700 miles a week and normally this time of year I see motorhomes and travel trailers by the hundreds daily.

On the way to Idaho Wednesday I saw only two in a 645 mile stretch.

Coming home on Thursday I saw absolutely none.

In fact, just about the only things I've seen lately are pickups pulling boats, but even those are very few and far between. :(

I think the tourist season in general is going to take a major hit this year thanks to OPEC. :rolleyes

Funny thing to me is that OPEC keeps saying that our fuel levels are low in the US so they keep jacking the prices up, one day there is an abundance the next day there is a shortage... :good  Our gas prices are like a teeter totter, at least on Wall Steet.

I was reading the other day that they (Gas Producers) are saying that the high price of gas will not effect Summer travel, maybe instead of pulling a random thought out of their asses they should ask people like BB who is on the road everyday and has first hand experience of what the price of gas is actually doing, IMO it's kind of hard to see what it's doing to travel when they're sitting in a nice Palace in the middle of a Sand Dune... :D :D

I hope so!

I actually spend less towing the toyhauler than I do towing the boat.....

...might have something to do with the fact that I usually park the toyhauler.....and I run the bejesus out of the boat! :banghead

The trip to San Antonio ought to keep the wallet empty for a while...taking 'em both! :eek

Now that you mention it...

I just got back from a Colorado trip this last week.  Both on the drive up and the drive back I saw only a few motorhomes and travel trailers/fifth wheels on the road.  :alien

And now that the snowbirds have headed north for the summer, there aren't a whole lot of rigs running around in this neck of the woods either.   :stupid  :stupid

Another thing I've noticed is how packed the various Ford, Dodge and GM dealership lots are with new unsold trucks. :rolleyes

Tonight on TV, the Las Vegas Ford dealers were advertising 0% financing and 1 year of free gas. :good

The gas prices have hit the lakes too.  Saguaro closed on the weekends last year at around 9 am and in previous years it would close around 7:30.  Now we rarely close, even on the weekends.  Some of this is because the other lakes, namely Roosevelt and Bartlett are full this year, but I'm sure the gas prices have alot to do with it.

The locals have been staying close to home here. Rather than driving out to Powell or down to Mead, it's been Gunnison, Sand Hollow and Quail Lake for us.

They're all full right now too. :good

... and all of a sudden I'm seeing more HHRs/PT Cruisers/Whatever Ford is producing...

If GM would just put one of the Turbo'd Ecotech engines in the HHR... hmmmmmm....  :stupid

My niece just picked up a nice, used PT cruiser.

She was driving a '93 Burb 1500, 4" lift and big wheels, and it was eating her aliive in gas and repairs.  After she spun the rear-end, it was done.

It's just sittin' in West Covina.....any takers...??

I'll bet that's just what you'll be seeing on the horizon. Ever since Bob Lutz took over the reins at GM, has been listening and responding to what the public wants. Ala Pontiac Solstice, V-8 Malibu, GTO, HHR, SSR and the upcoming '08-'09 Camaro. The HHR is in direct response to the Ford Escape and all that it needs to be the next sales leader is more juice under the hood for towing. :good

She's probably going to have to pay someone to take the Burb off her hands. :(

My buddy in Mira Mesa just let his '77 Chevy C-20 4X4 with big tires, fairly fresh engine and trans go for $500 to some Mexican from T.J. just to get it out of his driveway. :confused

This $3.00 plus per gallon is nothing but political to force the public to buy little cars. :angry
