That is so sad to hear. Must have been a little pooch to get in un noticed.
I had to put my 2 dogs down about a year ago and that tor me up. We are down to a 17 year old cat that I know I will be a wreck when he is gone.

Wow CE...that could have been ugly too...lucky cats have 9 lives.... Same with a Hamster we had long ago, he normally was in the garage but we left him there for 4 or 5 days while at the river, in which time there was a heat wave here at home. He'd had a seizure or something cuz both left legs were limp and inoperative, slowly they both recovered.....Damned if the thing didn't survive for another couple years. . . .
Anyhow, thanks for all your well wishes folks. DIL mother felt responsible cuz she closed the door on the car after they'd just emptied groceries.....she's never seen her husband cry before...My son ended up digging a grave for it because they just couldn't. Their whole family are animal lovers, live in the equestrian area, have horses and other animals. DIL is an intern at a VET.
Ain't life Grand? Treat it that way. The Love of my Life, Jan.

Heat Stroke in Dogs
I'm sooooooooo sorry to hear that a dog passed in such a horrid way...I'm sure she feels just terrible! WOW...that really is terrible!! VERY VERY VERY sad!!!
I have read that 80 degrees is too hot for dogs...and if it reaches 80 degrees you should bring your dog indoors and give plenty of access to water. So many of us bring the dogs to the lake and river where it's well over 100 degrees, if you do that, make sure the dog is put in the water now and then to cool off...and has plenty of fresh water to drink!...sooo friggen sad!!!

Our dog gets locked in the garage all the friggen time! Drives me crazy...we call her indoors a few times throughout the day...and especially on hot days...and that particular garage is pretty cool...doesn't get too hot in there even on hot days...which is a nice bonus since she somehow finds her way in there all the time...I'm trying to convince Miller to put a doggie door in, so she can come and go as she please, but he's not one for Doggie doors

yeah we make Molly stay in the house when we aren't home and if it's hot out...except on Saturdays because she LOVES the gardner and if we don't let her go out there to be with him she is a freak'n wreck inside driving us CRAZY!
