Somehow this internet scam software got into my desktop. It's called SYSPROTECT, and "pops up" telling you your computer is infected. It got through my firewall, AVG, and my popup blocker. DAMM...!!!
Despite closing the pop-up windows, it gets into the system and purposely shuts down Explorer, Control Panel, etc., and bogs down the system performance if you don't run their diags or purchase their product. Of course, there's no phone numbers on their website...!!!
I have had to use System Restore 3 differenct times to get things back to normal. FOCKERS....!!! I went looking for help, and most of the places are spamming as well.... DOUBLE FOCKERS...!!!
Anyway, found this site that seems to be legit and has successfully removed the problem.... ATRIBUNE.ORG
We'll see......anybody else get attacked....??

Hijack this is good for identifying the problem.
To eliminate spyware and virus' I use a combination of XoftSpy and Symantec AV Corp edt.
http://xoftspy.com/ They have a free scanner. I haven't used it though. I have the registered version I recommend getting a copy of this software.
Those two together have kept me safe. I am cleaning one of he employees laptops as I type. Current Tally : 62 files, 4 Directories, 11 registery entries on the Spy scan alone. The AV is up to 12 infections so far but it has a ways to go before finished.
Good luck, I hate ad/spyware.

It's amazing what some employees get on their computers...isn't it?
I popped for a copy of Xoftspy, but it didn't do it for me. Right now I have Symantec Corporate edition running and use Windows Defender, Spybot, Yahoo Anti-Spy, Zone Alarm Pro....and a firewall and a spam filter service.........jeesh, all that just to visit Doug's place!

OMG!! Â What sites are you browsing?!?! LOL! Â Thats some seriously layered protection. Â
I just finished that laptop. Â It was pretty straight forward until I tested the browser. Â argh.. w w w.syssecurity.net (edit - Don't go to that site )
That one was ugly. Â I do like that major geeks site now. Â It had removal instructions with tools. Â Browser hijacker
working good now. Â At least until she gets home and back on the internet. Â Â

Since we're talking about computer stuff, which I have no knowledge of..... is it possible to load someone elses microsoft word on another computer, or do I have to buy another software program?

Each computer is supposed to have it's own licensed version of MS Word. There are "generic" programs out there that will read & write Word documents, to some degree.

Every once in a while I'll get that, it's a "Trojan Downloader" and it goes in your "System Volume Information" folder and it's a bitch to get it out, most of those programs won't get it out either, the easiest way to do it is to do a "System Restore", just restore it to a date just prior to getting infested, you don't lose anything, it just restores your "System" and it's gone!..
