It's 45mph for the stretch, not a big line-up if you get through there "non-peak".... It's west of Essex and the rest stop where they finally finished that bridge after 4-5 years.....

Thanks guys....so in other words, it's no better than it was about three weeks ago...my last time out.
MrCord, I'm with you, why so long? I guess it's easier to turn us into 45 mph zombies if we keep it down for a while instead of slamming on the brakes for a sudden slow down?
I think it's closer to 7 or 8 miles.......I looked at the odometer last time through.
This press release is a little confusing....
State of California • Department of Transportation CALTRANS COMMUTER ALERT ___ 06-210 Date: Friday, July 07, 2006 1630 District: 08 – San Bernardino Contact: Shelli Lombardo Phone: (909) 383-4631 (work) (909) 383-6290 LANE OPENS ON WESTBOUND INTERSTATE 40 San Bernardino County- One lane of westbound I-40 at Essex Road is now open. The second lane will remain closed until late tomorrow afternoon to permit staging of emergency equipment and crews. Motorists may use National Trails Highway as a detour west and rejoin I-40 at Kelbaker Road. Due to the weight limit of bridges vehicles over 9 tons are not permitted to use National Trails Highway. Delays are expected. Motorists are advised to anticipate slow traffic. Merge early and follow directions of emergency personnel. Caltrans thanks you for your cooperation and reminds you to SLOW FOR THE CONE ZONE. # # # #
Either way, I guess I'll see what's up on Sat.

That release is in reference the the truck collision and resultant fire that happened last Friday, westbound at about 10:30a in the morning.
They CLOSED the road at Essex for most of the day. It opened up about 4:30 in the afternoon.
When I went by there Sat morning 7/8, the trucks were still there "smoldering" and the CHP was directing traffic.
Everything was gone on Sunday morning when I drove back.
One more tid-bit: As you approach the 1 lane stretch eastbound, there's still that "other" damaged bridge that they force you over to 1 lane for maybe 1/2 mile; same coming back. Not a problem, but it is on the upgrade.
Travel safe....you may see me out there Sat. (fair warning... )
