I was caught a bit off-guard by the trailer for the movie about the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center about to be released.

I haven't seen the one about the plane flight yet....don't know if I will. :(

Do these movies trivialize what happened? :stupid

I personally don't want to see either of them. That was a
horrible time and I don't want to relive any of it.

I am wondering if any of the proceeds will go to the
surviving families?

I have a different view on this. Hollywood made many great WWII movies in the period after and even during the war. I think this event is worthy of a movie or two. My opinion of these movies will be based on how well they are done. Not the timing. Personally I think far far too many people have already forgotten how horrible and evil those attacks were. Many are even starting to listen to creeps like Micheal Moore and lunitics like Cindy Sheehan. If these movies are powerful and accurate, then my response is, give us more. If it hurts our sensitivities to be reminded of this, so be it. Pain our most basic defense mechanism. It may not feel good, but it is far better than the consequences of the apathy and appeasement that forgetting may breed.

You have an EXTREMEMLY valid point there. I know I for one
will never forget, but I am sure others are trying to.
Maybe it's just harder now, cause it's something that has
happened in THIS generation.

I gotta tell you, I just watched it again (Thanks for the link NT)

I remember exactly where I was and who I was with when it all went down.

I will never, ever forget that day. But I can certainly understand how time lessens the impact of events like these.

It stirs up all kinds of emotions too.

And quite frankly I'm getting tired of all the political correctness surrounding all of this.

Where is Randy Newman when you need him. :stupid

Eventhough it has been almost 5 years, it is still too fresh in my memory for me to want to see this. Its hard to say if it is too soon or not, but speaking just for myself, it IS too soon.

I dont know much about the movie, but if the studio breaks even on their cost of making the film, promotions, etc, I would feel a bit better about it if the profits went to a good cause, other than the greedy Hollywood types.

A percentage of the profits (I've forgotten how large) from the movie Flight 93 are going to the families of the passengers. I don't know if that is so for World Trade Center. I do understand that the families of victims and many WTC survivors were involved in making both these films. I have no problem with them making money from these films. If they are good, I hope they make boatloads of money. It might send the folks in Hollywierd a message, if a movie like this makes more money than the weak minded crap they usually make.
P.S. "Cassablanca" was made in 1942, while thousands of familys were getting notices that their young men were dying every day. I don't recall learning about anyone whining about them making money from it, or that it was "too soon". I guess that was just a time when people just cared more about life and freedom more than they did their "feelings".
P.P.S. The first movie about Pearl Harbor ( "Secret Agent of Japan") was released in april of 1942 and in 1943 John Ford got an Academy Award for the movie "December 7 1942".
:drama
The fact is, even those in Hollywood were made of sterner suff back then.

My take is these movies should be made for the simple reason people need to be reminded and not let those :guns a-hole terrorists think we're asleep at the wheel again.

I'm more interested in seeing "Flight 93" than Oliver Stone's rendition of the WTC collapse.

Stone has a nasty habit of f*cking up the facts, ie: JFK, Nixon :stupid

Well..................................................? :rolleyes

Has anybody seen the movie yet? :stupid

One of my daughters (15 yr old) saw it last night, now the other (12) wants to go tomorrow. She went and rented "Flight 93" this afternoon. We just finished watching it.

I learned something.....the kids really don't truly understand the tremendous impact that this event had on us as a country. From that standpoint I now see a significant value in documenting this for history's sake. :(

Saw it Sat night.   I didn't know what to expect and frankly the plot went in a completely different direction that what I had anticipated. They left a lot up to the viewers own memory of known facts and infused real footage from CNN's live news cast.

The premis of the movie revolved around the 2 Port Authority Officers that became trapped when Tower's 1 & 2 came down and the trauma that ensued.   There were a couple of parts that were  :cry when you releaized just how much the victims and their families went through.   Overall, this film captured the events of the hero's of the day and the struggles they went through to try and save lives.

Personally, it was a little too PC for me, but the message it sends is positive.  Definite rental if you don't make the theater.

Go see Ricky Bobby afterwards.  It'll make ya feel better.
