Though I'm a Republican,,, we'll never see it with an oilman in the WhiteHouse.
It's usually argriculture based manufacture from either corn, sugar cane, sugar beets, switchgrass (celluose), and/or a few other crops.
Anything negative written about it is oil company exaggerated propaganda, and 99% non-sense.
Ford is building and selling 250 000 flex fuel capable cars each year, GM about 300.000 and rising. Everybody loves them. Very big in Idaho, catching on in New York, and the midwest.
Brazil has reached 98% use and imports no fossil fuels, Hawaii will be there in about 3 years.
It's called E85 in the Ethanhol version. It's teriffic.
It's the future.

Agreed!! I also believe the government could put a price cap on the gas price but never will. I am sure the Republicans will loose the office the next election.

Ethanol and Butanol will jack up your boat....depending on the blend. There have been alot of PWC/2-stroke issues with fuel this year, mainly traced back to high amounts of these additives, upwards of 30%.... From what they have said, it burns leaner and will fry a piston very easily.....
Here's a quote from a very reliable boater who also works in the oil industry in Texas:
Ethanol causes more problems than it solves. It costs MORE than gasoline, yet it sells for less because your tax dollars are spent to subsidize it. I don't like ANY government subsidies.
The oil companies are actively investigating alternative energy sources--energy is their business! When our government won't let them drill in areas that are known to contain vast petroleum reserves; when the government won't let them build a new refinery, they HAVE to find an alternative.
By the way, there are better alternatives to ethanol already. Euphorbia Lathyris is a plant that yields a better raw material, but the farmers want corn. What do we want to do, anyway? Create more energy, or keep the farmers from bitching? (You'll NEVER keep a farmer from bitching, by the way).
The high oil prices are temporary. When we get the remaining Gulf Coast refineries up to speed after the hurricane damage, prices should drop. Likewise, when tensions ease in the Middle East, prices should drop at lot.
Our current energy policy SUCKS..... Bush is padding the pockets of his cronies.... We're being had, and the other energy companies *(gas, electric) are playing the same game, blaming it on the price of gas.....
