On the interstate and most Calif. state highways the length limit is 75 ft. All secondary roads and any road more than 1 mile off the beaten trail is 65 feet.

Length laws are pretty standard in all states, but CHP has a real hard-on for violating the secondary road restriction.

don't the polar bears have a lazer that can measure you going down the road?

No, but they do use photo cells to measure trucks length and height as they cross the scales. The polar bears are much more interested in brakes, tires and excessive smoke out the stack these days.

They would absolutely shit if they ever came across my 113 foot set of doubles. :rotflmao

Vehicle Lengths in CA

My buddy got pulled over last year on the way to Glamis.  40' Pusher w/ 25' Trailer.  65 Feet Right.  Plus 4' for the tongue.  The cop asked my buddy to hold the tape at the front of the motorhome as he walked to the back of the rig.  Got popped with a $1300.00 ticket.  :cry  (Think he might have had a few other infractions)  Needless to say, he's got a whole new setup this year.  If only CA was little more like AZ and NV.  :peace

Check your 65' and make sure you've got the proper license.

I'm going to guess at this. A 40' motorhome probably has air brakes and may need a CDL with air brake endorsements to drive it??

I'm pretty sure the non-commercial class B covers that. :D

Based on that link to the CA DMV, he not only doesn't need the Class B, but he doesn't need an endorsement either. He's at 40'. :D

Correct.  The cop didn't nail him for an improper license.  Class C is all that was needed for his 40'er.  Got popped for being too long (and a few other things that he wouldn't elaborate on   :drink ).   :beat

That's not fun. :banghead

I've been reading through the Vehicle Code. Man, what a nightmare. You can do this but only if that....

And it looks like there is a recreational vehicle endorsement on a Class C required for towing a trailer that size. But it doesn't require a driving test with the equipment, just a written test.

I may go visit my local DMV and see what's involved........just for grins, I love going to the DMV. :p

You're not kidding.  I found out I'm in violation when I tow my 30' Weekend Warrior.  Standard travel trailer right?  Wrong.  It has a GVWR of 13,000LBS.  Which means I need a Non-Commercial Class A.   :angry

I gave the cop my Commercial License (aviation) along with my First Class Medical to see if he'd cut me some slack and it worked, but he said next time it won't fly.
