OK I have a speaker in my '02 Silverado that has gone south. I want to replace the front speakers and I'm at a loss. I do need to keep the price down and have been looking at 2 speaker sets. Kenwood KFC-1360S and Clarion SRR1316. I need to stay with a 5 1/4, I don't want to do any cutting and I'm in a time crunch to install. What have any of you used?? I just have the stock radio.
Pros?? Cons??? Info?? Sugestions??
Thanks Folks!!

| Quote (weldwade @ Aug. 21 2006,10:23 am) | My limited experience says go with the Clarion's. I have never had a problem with mine |
I have them in my boat and like them. Need more bass tho but that will need to happen with other speakers I have.
Now that I have found out that I have room for 6 1/2's, I looking at the SRR1616 Clarions. Seems to be a new speaker on the market and unable to find any reviews on them. Found a one dealer with them but non setup to hear. Still on the prowl though

I have looked there but not getting a real warm fuzzy feeling on what they have with reviews. If I aint got good sounding tunes for our trip, The wife will be naging the whole trip. I can't listen to that for 6 hours.

Yeah KC, I usually check with them for specs (may buy elsewhere, though)- the big catalog they publish is handy, otherwise the on-line "What fits my car" gizmo works well.
BD, for $50 those Kenwood, or you might consider the Pioneer TS G1341R for the same price with a composite cone -either one will sound better than the OEM speaker. For a few more bucks, the JBL Grand Touring GTO527 have an aimable tweeter with level control. And you get adapter bracket free with Crutchfield.
It's a fact of Life:
After Monday and Tuesday, even the Calendar says : WTF .......

Ya know, everybody's hearing is different I learned that a long time ago, one speaker may sound good to you and it may sound like shit to another regardless of the brand, also the environment makes a big difference, the same speaker in a sound room may sound bitchin, put it in a vehicle and it can sound like shit, you have to actually listen to different speakers in the environment you plan to use them in to get the full effect of what suits your hearing!..

decide yet???
or are you driving around with headphones? |
I have the fade off to the rears for now but thats getting real old. The Clarions are looking real good at this point. I may take a gamble on them.

Well I made the jump and went with Clarions SRR1616. I just got them installed today so I will know better in a couple days once there broke in if I realy do like them. So far so good. Of course 6 1/2's are not going to rattle windows or shake the mirrors but so far the sound is pretty good. The highs are real clean and thay also seem to have a little more volume than the stock. Oh and for connecting them it was a breeze. I went to Best Buy and they had the adaptors from the stock plug to the aftermarket speaker. 8 bucks well spent for the pair. Now keep in mind I just replaced the front speakers and the stock ones are still in the rear doors. I also left the stock tweeters in the front door panels just disconected.

If I had the budget for amps and speakers. You would be able to hear me at your place just steping out on your front porch.
