Girl, 2, is found; father sought
Brent Whiting The Arizona Republic Sept. 12, 2006 03:40 PM
Authorities have canceled an Amber Alert for a 2½-year-old Avondale girl but are still seeking her father, who is suspected in the death of her 1-year-old brother.
Kendra Shaw was found safe shortly before noon Tuesday at a maternal grandmother's home in Glendale, said Officer Amy McGhee, an Avondale police spokeswoman.
She was dropped off there by her father, Carlos Juan Shaw, 29, along with two other men in a older-model Jeep Cherokee with gray primer paint, McGhee said.
Police have been searching for Carlos Shaw since Monday evening after his infant son, Andre Shaw, was pronounced dead at a Valley hospital, McGhee said.
Earlier, paramedics were sent to a home in the 11500 block of West Dana Lane, just south of Indian School Road, after a call was made to report a child choking, she said.
Police got involved after hospital officials advised the toddler had died under “suspicious circumstances,†McGhee said.
Now, Carlos Shaw is being sought an investigative lead in the case, McGhee said.
Investigators also would like to question a woman, Crystal Dawn Riley, 27, who may be in the company of Shaw, she said.
McGhee said Debra Musall, 28, Andre’s mother, was taken into custody for questioning then later booked on a charge of child abuse. She did not elaborate on the details of the probe.
Police activated an Amber Alert early Tuesday after Carlos Shaw took off with the daughter, she said.
