You can "ski" right up to that bouy line that's about 1/4 mile or so above where the river meets the lake. Â When you come down from the Sandbar, the headwaters finger out in all directions right at that bouy line. Â Back in July, we went dead ahead and Damon when extreme Cali side....
The wakeboarders like the water close to the AZ side; lots of PWC towing around and through the reeds. Â You will see skiers and tubers occasionally in the main channel area, which can get dicey with the water level, week-end traffic, etc. Â Not the brightest place to play...
They have made much of the backwater area on the AZ side "no wake" above the bouy line, which is a bummer for the Speed Alley peeps, but a good thing overall.  It was mainly the PWC riders tearing things up back there.  I believe the change is as much for boater safety as habitat protection.
We like to idle back in there and find a beach or mini-bar and kick back for awhile. Â You could only "hear" the PWC's, racing through the reeds, then they would come around a blind turn at speed....
Now, it's pretty quiet and peaceful. Â You only hear the main channel when a "big baller" runs through, and they have added a muffler/noise abatement ordinance as well.
It is a Wildlife Refuge, after all....

Must be about where the pontoon boat was pulling the tube in circles in the middle of the channel.....

All the high/low water flow changes over the past two years... I'm guessing, as always....
