I don't know if you saw the news yesterday about the latest edition of Extreme Home Makeover......but this one hits close to home.
An L.A.P.D. Officer Kristi Ripatti, who was shot while going after a bad guy over by the L.A. Coliseum, lives only a few blocks from our house with her husband Tim (He's a cop too) and their 19 month old daughter.
She's paralzyed from the chest down now and it is extremely difficult to function in their house....so it's being totally rebuilt.
A very good friend of ours was selected as the finishing contractor and both my wife and I have volunteered our help (don't know if they'll need us).
I have to tell you, I have a whole 'nother perspective on this TV show and the impact they have on people's lives. :good

Wow, that's great that they are getting helped out. Keep us posted, maybe post some sneek preview pics....if you can.

I have a lot of law enforcement clients - they have one of the most upappreciated jobs out there. Imagine if 90% of the people you came into contact with while working didn't like you.

I am dragging......I put in 12 hours installing windows yesterday! And that's nothing compared to some of these guys. :eek

The scene is unreal....the production is huge. The whole block is shut down and the neighbors on both sides for 4 houses each direction, next door and across the street are totally consumed by this.

Building materials stacked on their lawns, tents, containers lining the streets. The landscaping guys are going to be very busy before this is over.

The people are great! :good Everybody bustin' butt and smiling the whole time..... :grouphug

One neat thing was the way they demo'd the house....L.A.P.D. SWAT came in with their battering ram vehicle and to top it off they had the SWAT copter overhead while they blew up the house with C-4! :eek

Saw it on the news this morning. They are really needing drywallers right now. !% hrs behind on hanging it. Everything else looked great though. Nice job on the windows Glassman!!!

Thanks...that middle one in front was tricky...seems the framers were 1/8" off :laugh  Amazing how fast those guys can slam a frame up!

The drywall was still going up hot and heavy around midnight, I think it was all hung by 2. They REALLY need mudders and tapers....I'll be going back at 5 today to help with inside finish. :jumpie

I took some pics last night with my cell phone. The house is just beautiful. Not gawdy or funky, just, a real nice house. I walked my wife through it last night (big mistake).

They unveil it later today. I'm going to try and make it over there before they close the set. I'd love to see the look on their faces when they see it for the very first time. :good

Shue, I believe the air date is 11/26.

I have some shots on my camera phone, kinda blurry 'cause I was in a hurry to get out front of the house for the reveal. I was running all over the house the afternoon of the last day...putting up planters, hanging stuff on walls - even had to fix the refrigerator! :break

It was pretty awesome when it finally came time to "Move That Bus!" (which was the LAPD Bomb Squad truck).

I got to meet Paige...she's pretty hot, work would come to a standstill when she came around. :laugh

Thats pretty cool.
10 years ago (or so) I was a plumbing crew leader on a simular project for Olive tree (or Olive hill something like that) To build 4 homes for abused teens in Perris.
We turned it into a race with 4 teams headed up by different builders and subs. It was amazing how fast we built 4 houses from a dirt pad to completion in less then a week. Ofcourse the inspections where easy. :D

Spirit of Volunteerism Celebration

 Come and join Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in a celebration of the Spirit of Volunteerism with food and music.
View the TV episode at King’s Harbor Church on Sunday evening, December 10 in Torrance and see many of the new friends that you made during the build.
 

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will honor LAPD Officer Kristina Ripatti and thousands of volunteers from the South Bay, Los Angeles and across the nation who joined “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to build a custom home for Kristina and her family.  

 

On Sunday, December 10th, hundreds of donors and volunteers will come together with their families and members of the LAPD and Redondo Beach Police and Fire Departments to watch the special 2-hour episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

King's Harbor Church, 23915 Garnier Street, Torrance, CA 90505, http://www.mapquest.com/

The track was barely hung, no less running, by the time they got home. The install guy was a lunatic! The usual install time for a system that size is 2+ weeks.

I think it took a couple of weeks to get all the bugs worked out. Great house though, once all the clamor dies down they can relax and enjoy it. :good
