X-Ray-ted Pics Of Airline Travelers

PHOENIX, AZ - Big Brother is about ready to watch you - all of you - at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. It will become America’s first airport to test a new truly revealing federal screening system.

The controversial decision will result in virtually nude and extremely clear X-rays of passengers :eek  in an attempt to find concealed explosives and other weapons. Only the private parts will be masked. It’s called “backscatter” and it’s raising the hackles of civil libertarians.

The Transportation Security Administration says it can fix the graphic images so that the pictures can be blurred in key private areas  :rolleyes while still being effective in detecting bombs and other threats. At least one machine will be in place for the Christmas travel at Sky Harbor.

The security agency says the machines will be effective in helping detect plastic or liquid explosives and other non-metallic weapons that can be missed by standard metal detectors. But some say the high-resolution images, which clearly depict the outline of the passenger's body, plus anything attached to it, such as jewelry, go too far.  :beat  

Reportedly, the X-rays will be set up so that the image can be viewed only by a Transportation Security Officer nearby. The system is also being set up so that the X-ray will be immediately deleted as soon as the passenger departs the area.

Yea, right.....the 'Net will be flooded with 'em in no time

Have you seen the test images... there is nothing left to the imagination,  :eek and since there are humans involved, damn right those are going to get sold and put on the internet.

I still say that it's only a mater of time till you aren't allowed to wear your own cloths on an airplane.  Everyone will be issued scrubs at the security check point and will have to change into them to fly... or you'll get chained to the seat, your choice.

Though there is a sliver of laughter in all of this... anyone else remember the scene in Airplane 2 at the security check point??

Beyone the tehe's about staring at naked women all day long, I sure as hell wouldn't want my kids going through one of these things.  Just the thought of one of TSA's finest in the back room looking at naked pictures of children is enough to make me stop flying commercial again.

It will be provided on a choice basis.....You can still do it the oldfashioned way and be hand wanded if you want....

This new backscatter system hopefully will reduce wait times....Of course we could just terrorism profile, but apparrently that is raceist....(How many grandmothers from Iowa were there on board the 911 planes anyway??).

We still get frisked, searched, and patted down just like everyone else, and believe me, if we wanted to bring down a jet, we wouldn't need a boxcutter or a bomb to do it... :rolleyes

We wait in line, but there is an "Employee only" line at some airports now that gets us through pretty fast. Since we all have been through security about a billion times we tend to not hold up the line as much as Jane Q Public, and her accidentally on vibrator.... :rolleyes

... but then that was all the attention that some of them ever get.   :(

i think the job of watching that thing would be "interesting"
