ORANGE COUNTY COASTAL AREAS-SAN DIEGO COUNTY COASTAL AREAS- SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY VALLEYS-THE INLAND EMPIRE- SAN DIEGO COUNTY VALLEYS-SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY MOUNTAINS- RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS- SANTA ANA MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS- SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS-APPLE AND LUCERNE VALLEYS- COACHELLA VALLEY-SAN DIEGO COUNTY DESERTS- 300 AM PST WED DEC 13 2006
...PACIFIC STORM TO AFFECT SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA OVER THE WEEKEND...

A STRONG STORM SYSTEM...OVER THE NORTH CENTRAL PACIFIC TUESDAY NIGHT...IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO CALIFORNIA AROUND SATURDAY. THIS STORM WILL IMPACT ALL OF SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA AND BRING PERIODS OF RAIN AND WIND WITH SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS. A FEW THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE...AND THEY COULD CONTAIN HAIL...FUNNEL CLOUDS OR WATERSPOUTS. THE MOST LIKELY TIME PERIOD FOR THE STORMY WEATHER WILL BE BETWEEN SATURDAY AND MONDAY.

DUE TO THE STRENGTH OF THIS STORM... RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO BE HEAVY AT TIMES. TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER AN INCH ARE POSSIBLE AT THE COAST...AND SOME OF THE LOWER COASTAL SLOPES COULD HAVE SUBSTANTIALLY GREATER AMOUNTS OF RAINFALL. DEBRIS FLOWS AND FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE NEAR RECENT BURN AREAS AND FLASH FLOOD WATCHES MAY NEED TO BE POSTED. SINCE THIS WILL BE A COLD STORM...SNOWFALL COULD BE HEAVY IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH SNOW LEVELS AS LOW AS 4000 FEET. STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY COMBINE WITH THE SNOW TO PRODUCE DANGEROUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

AFTER THE STORM PASSES TO THE EAST EARLY NEXT WEEK...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR STRONG GUSTY NORTH OR NORTHEAST WINDS BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS.

THE TIMING AND DETAILS OF THIS SYSTEM ARE STILL SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN GIVEN THAT THE STORM IS STILL SEVERAL DAYS AWAY AND HALFWAY ACROSS THE PACIFIC. HOWEVER...COMPUTER MODELS INDICATE A HIGH LIKELIHOOD THAT THE STORM WILL IMPACT THE REGION SOMETIME DURING THE WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

THIS WILL BE THE FIRST MAJOR STORM OF THIS WINTER SEASON OVER SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA. PEOPLE PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THIS WEEKEND...ESPECIALLY IN THE MOUNTAINS...SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE INCLEMENT WEATHER.

In the fire areas I would think that mud slides could happen not just heavy run off depending on the amount of rain that does happen. :eek
