The smoke stacks of San Manuel AZ are being demo'd tomorrow :break Becky was born and raised with those things in her backyard and I was around them since 1969. The mine has been closed about 7-8 years. Its a big deal up there, lots of people are making sabaticals to watch the big boom. I worked in the underground portion of the mine for about 5-6 years in the late 70's early 80' crazy stuff let me tell ya.

This is a pic of when there was only one stack, we used to breath that lovely pollution everyday :puke tasted like sulfur :eek When they built the other stack they put some sort of scrubbers in the system to stop the pollution it didn't work :banghead

About 60 miles NE of Tucson, just on the other side of Mount Lemmon. Thos mountains you see on the north side of town when your down here :)

The ones at Winslow are for the power plant up there.  

I saw it on the news that they are coming down tomorrow... would be something to go see.  One of the talking heads here in T-town said they plan to build houses on the site...  :rolleyes ... yeah... sure they are...

Right before I left I worked in the Mine Constrution Dept worked the near bottom of the main shaft it was 4440 feet from the surface about 1000 ft below sea level :drama  :good

My old man rode the cage in the early 70's at Magma. I have been mining for 13yrs now and I will stay above ground :peace
A few of the guys that worked there before the shutdown are taking vacation tomorrow to see the stacks fall :good
