Boaters will not be discouraged from their favorite leisure pastime â€“ not by terrorist attacks, political unrest, unsettled weather, low water or high fuel costs. According to the National Marine Manufacturer's Association, overall American boat registration increased by 1.3 percent to 12.9 million boats in 2005.

Participation in boating in 2006 rose at an even higher rate, by 2.3 million Americans, bringing the total number of boating participants to 71.3 million. By late 2006, new boat sales were up 10 percent from the previous year.
