Hey peeps,

I just logged in here with my new laptop and noticed this new member named Zafran was posting porn links all over the site. :angry

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THOSE LINKS!!!!!

I did click on one and it said I needed to download a Windows Media Player codec. I did download it and saved it so I could scan it and it is a very bad WORM. I PM'd Doug, but it's 2:40 in the morning up here in Idaho and I'm sure he's in bed so I figured it be best to warn y'all!

Must be the same guy that was posting on ebay, I click into ebay and started to look at "trans am's" and the first one I open was a porn link with pic's and my little girl was standing next to me, I had to click out so fast, I was pissed, you can't even go on ebay with the kids now, just plain sick, I mean I like porn just like the next guy, but we don't need that.

We are getting close to that here. :guns   As it is, I delete around half of new registrations now.

Back in the old days, we didn't even verify email and didn't have a problem.  Less than a year ago, we had to start verifing because the spammers were getting out of hand.  It gets worse everyday, so manual authorizations might come soon. :eek

That will sort of suck for genuine new members because they might have to wait a bit before they are authorized. :(

I delete a 2 - 3 peeps a day on average.  They are spammers with non boating related links in their signatures or homepage information.  The majority of those can't even post because they use bogus email addy's.  A few get through like what happened early this morning.

Basically it's a trade off.  More security for us would come at the expense of inconvenience to the new registrations having to wait for approval. :)

Prolly more security on the front end will save you problems in the day-to-day activities or having to go to manual approvals... ;)    :confused
