If you notice less guests on the board, it's because I'm working on a project.  For those of you who don't know already, many of the "guests" are actually web spiders searching the site.  I don't mind some of them because they index the site for their search engines like Google for example.  Some of them are bad though, like email harvesters.  In every case they ALL slow down the board in theory.  I'm placing some restrictions on where spiders can crawl and setting some traps for those that disregard their instructions.  After I am able to ban the really bad ones, I may be able to let the goods ones back in.  This project will be ongoing.  :)

Only if you post it. :) Since the harvesters look for anyone@anysite.com some peeps post their addy as anyone at anysite dot com to fool the harvesters. Images are a good way around them too.  You can just make an image of your addy and post it instead.  I, personally, use javascript to disquise my addy. Even though it is readable and clickable, it is disquised in the source code and decoded in a remote javascript file. :)

Gee Doug, I tried changing mine using (dot) instead of .

and I get a message saying it's not a valid email address.

Now I know why this address gets the spam it does....this is one of the few places it's posted. :stupid

In a post or your Control Panel? :stupid If it's in a post, just don't use the email link button and type it out using "at" and "dot" instead.  The Control Panel DOES need a valid address but you can choose to hide it. The email harvesters can't see those addresses either.

The board seem to be a lot faster lately.  Is it because of the changes you have mentioned.  Anyway....thanks Doug, for helping all of us.
