I'm not 'zactly sure I know what you mean by "last bend", are you refering to the end of the No Wake zone through the gorge?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be out there this week.  :good

There's 2 or 3 beaches on AZ side just before the bridge that they seem to like. Easy road access.

Yup that beach under the white pipe bridge is where they usually hold it. But usually they had picked people at random.  Ohh well. More reason to be safe!

I have a buddy who got picked up at one of these check points and they charged him with Excessive DUI.  The AZ sheriff said that the judge could involk a sentace of 6 months plus fines and insurance and attorney cost.  He tested just over the 1.5.  He is panicked, if the sentance sticks he will most likely loose his job.  His wife had to raise $1800 in cash to post bond.

Your buddy better get a really good attorney. "the judge could.....", judge Would give him 6 months. That's the minimum these days. He best be panicked, they don't lose many of these cases. You did'nt mention the 18 month alcohol class or the ignition lock-out devices. Don't they have these in AZ?

They use the ignition-lock usually when someone has had several DUI's.  If that guy has a good lawyer and if it's his first time, then he may get a work-release sentence.

I was guessing prior's because of the bail. Here in CA, 4 hours in drunk tank, and your out with Notice To Appear.
Work Release, I forgot about that. That's got to be horrible too. Guess it's better than losing everything.

At .15, I'm not even sure I could get in my boat. I'll try the roll & tumble entry. Then I'll have to find the damn keys that my wife seemed to misplace.

My old roommate was from AZ and for his first DUI he had an ignition interlock for one year! No priors.  I have heard that they dont eff around in AZ with DUI's and I dont imaging that BUI's are much different :(

Moral is be safe and dont drink.

Exactly what I have heard, especially for the extremists.

Yes this was his first offence.  I too have been told that AZ has .8 and 1.5 offence guideline, and that the 1.5 is automatic extreme.  But I too have been told about the breath interlock system everyone is now getting.  Imagin that on your boat too.  Not sure if you could get an interlock on a boat, bet you cant't?  However as to him being able to drive to work.  If they give him 6 months in jail, he can't drive to work.  Right now he has a very expensive attorney and is sweating it.

He was picked up with several others in a stop leaving the canal.  They also found that his extinguisher was expired by (2) months.  This was not a fun day for him at Havi.

No matter what this will be a very costly experience for him.

First offense, that's good news for him. AZ also has .00-.03 and .03-.05 and .05-.08. I don't think they put inter-locks on boats, but they could. If like CA, he can't drive now. That Hilton person tried it. Being picked up with several others isn't his best defense. Expired extinguisher. This poor soul's life just got changed possibly forever. He doesn't have the time to worry about a $25.00 fit it ticket.

He is not thinking of using the others as a defense.  They just gathered up several at one time, and took them to the beach and started processing them one by one.  He knows he is in deep trouble.  The shame of it all, he is not a big drinker.  It is the fact that through the day, with other friends he just lost track, of how much he had drunk.  And, once he crossed a point he lost his awareness.

I know I have started being more responsible when driving and not drinking to excess like in my younger years.
Most of the folks we go out with are the same way.
Not really that bad, in fact it I can actually remember what happened at the sand bar now when I am the DD.  :jumpie  As opposed to waking up the next day with no recollection of the prior days events.  :drink  :puke

Yep, I slowed down too. And just in case, boat does'nt get wet without my DD. Memmories, 500+ trips to Crazy Horse, and all I remember is looking for a camp site. Now a carry the camera.
