I hope your dad gets well soon. Same thing happened to my dad. He now has to take a pill (I think it's Lasix or something like that) that makes him pee a lot. One thing that sux is when he takes it and he has to go, HE HAS TO GO...poor guy

Lasix is the one alright.....They gave him that in the IV and he peed within 5 minutes, then again another 5-6 times in the next 3-4 hours.
Now he takes a double dose of Lasix in pill form...not as effective nor as quickly but he is going much better.
Concurrent with the Lasix he has to take potasium pills because lasix robs the body of it....
Blows my mind, he's taking about 20 pills a day  .....this man never took anything unless forced, even aspirin..

WOW...just gettin' caught up on this... With my folks, we went some 5 years living in panic mode at a early morning (or late night) phone call. God Bless Them... 
My mom's hanging in there at 84...she takes between 15-20 pills a day as well. I'm with you, I only take when instructed, and ususally forget after a few days anyway...
Stubborn German blood anyway...keep him on schedule...
