And it's probably a good idea for everyone to stay off the sidewalks, too. We bought my oldest son his first car, and as we promised him, it's a pile. Not as bad as it COULD have been, but this will teach him the basics of automotive repair. It's a 1963 with absolutely NO RUST, 170ci inline 6, 3 on the tree, and painfully stock.... never even had a radio. It was a service truck for a John Deere dealer in Mesa, AZ, and with only 104,000 miles, should be easy to make safe and reliable.
Just needs a little shag carpet some pad and it's ready to go.
Photoshopped a set of wheels on it so Dana can see that it can easily look better.
Only have a few rules. No tint or anything covering the side windows (because of the huge blind spot a newbie has to deal with), and no V8 conversion (no need for speed yet).

No tint or curtains until he's outa the house. It'll help keep him out of trouble if he learns to drive without a massive blind spot. When he's more experienced, he can if he wants.

He's liking the idea of keeping the stickers on the doors. What parent could complain about their daughter going out in a van with no curtains and John Deere stickers on it?

Come on! Everyone knows the vans with the giant pie tins around the headlights are Dodges.

My uncle had one of those for years. Then he moved up to the pickup version. I remember riding in the van when I was a kid. It had shag carpet on the engine cover. And a homemade wooden "console" with cupholders and whatnot on top of that.
