Okay, here are some more
This is called "fire mountain" I think   We were in the trees and I told Jeff, "there's something up ahead called 'fire mountain', but I don't see what could be so special about it" (expecting more trees as we went around the bend). But then all of a sudden, the trees went away and there was this big "rock" with "fire" (geothermal gasses) spewing out of it.  You can't see the gasses coming out very well, but if you look you'll see them.  The bison bull was kind enough to pose for me. Â
Elk as we were leaving
Flathead Lake, which is huge! Â Some 80-100 miles long! Â It is a very popular place to live in Montana and there are lots of multi-million dollar properties on the water. You can't get waterfront for less than 1.5 million.
When we get to our friends house, they have completed a little apartment in their 2000 sq ft. shop and offered it to us. Â I felt guiltly as they were making house in a motorhome, but I was ready to get the F out of that cramper!! Â It had a little stove and Jeff finished the bathroom up so within 2 days we had a toilet and shower. Hallelujah!
The kids woke up and checked out the property. Â They found something interesting right away

Cody, feeding the birds
Shooting his first handgun
On our quad ride, we came across an obstacle on one of the trails
What to do? Luckily, Danny had a new winch on his quad he had been itching to use. It took about 1/2 hour.
They moved it enough to get around and we got through, only to find another downed tree 500 yards up the road. Danny started to get out his winch again until I walked a little ways ahead to see where we were going and saw there was no where to go. The road ended there. We were on the wrong trail.
So we went back the way we came

Carey and Jeff on the trail
I crossed a bridge when we were almost back to Carey's place and had to stop when I saw this. Â The pic doesn't even do it justice. Â It was about 7pm and the light was just fantastic.
Eureka, MT on the way into Canada. A cute little town. Â
We got a little nervous when we discovered the rocks in Canada have legs   Â
But we entered anyway (only three cars in front of us)
We saw signs for a "dairy bar" all over. Â Â We thought "What the heck is a dairy bar?" Â Do you belly up and order whatever flavor of milk you want? Â No, it was like a Dairy Queen. Â Burgers, hotdogs, and ice cream. Â LOL So, of course, we at lunch there. I had a garlic mozzerella bacon cheesburger
Then we saw the Canadian Rockies near Fernie (don't bother going to Fernie), turned around and went home. Well, after I went to the liquor store, got some Grey Goose as I was out, and picked up some Genuine Canadian maple syrup with a moose on the bottle

We went fishing on the Flathead River, a little east of Whitefish. Jeff thought it would be funny to take a shot of me shimmying out of my shorts. So here is your bikini shot
Found a little cove without current to rest for a minute (rowing on a fast moving river is hard work!
Our friend, Steve, taught Carey and Jeff how to flyfish. Here he is helping Carey with technique.
Then after about 2 hours of fishing, Carey caught one on her new pole she got for Christmas
They have a little place where the water is deep enough to jump, but I'm a fraidy cat, so I didn't do it.

This is the house, it was just a barn until Jeff got there It still needs a lot inside. They have a few years to go before it is livable. But it's going to be beautiful.
Here is the view off the back patio. You can't see real well, but the creek the kids were playing in runs right through the back. And there are beautiful birds (martins and jays) and numerous varieties of butterflies all over the place.
That's it!!! Whew! I'm tired. Time for a nap

Quote (Sportin' Wood @ July 14 2007,8:57 pm) | Quote (Sleek-Jet @ July 14 2007,7:53 pm) | Where are the pics showing the 8 feet of snow...
Place looks awesome. Â Now that Jeff has been taught the correct way to fish, next time you guys go to Moab, take a day and swing over to Farmington and fish the San Juan river below Navajo dam... few places in the world that have better fly fishing.. Â Â Though it's not nearly as pretty. |
LOL, it gets 8 feet of snow at Carey's place, but in Whitefish everyone we talked to said they keep about a foot of snow on the ground from Jan-late March. Â I'd don't think they'd lie because they don't like Californians moving to the area. Â If they lied, it'd be a lot deeper. Â
I think we're going to go back in December to verify.

Yeah, the foot of snow is probably right... because the wind blows the rest away...
Of course, all that white stuff means you get to play with snow machines...

Meet us up there around Christmastime. Â It's a way cool town with a ski resort. Â Supposed to be the Aspen of Montana. Kevin already said he'd watch the dogs.

That'd be fun actually... unlike Aspen you can probably afford to go skiing there. Â I haven't put on a pair of down hill sticks in about 15 years now... |
I haven't . . . ever But I'm ready to learn. I've heard it's good exersize (sp) for your buttocks.
