Southwest Airlines cuts flights to popular destinations

Southwest Airlines will reduce the number of flights departing from Sky Harbor International Airport to such areas as Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Baltimore by the end of the year, the company said Tuesday.

The airline, however, plans to begin a new nonstop flight in August to Manchester, N.H., which serves the Boston market.

Spokeswoman Whitney Eichinger said the carrier was tweaking flights nationally to meet passenger demand and deal with fuel costs.
 




It will add 46 roundtrip flights and 39 by the end of 2007.

Seven of Southwest's 206 daily departures from Phoenix will be eliminated and a nonstop flight to Cleveland will be cut altogether.

Jim Peterson, Sky Harbor's air service development manager, said the Boston area is underserved for travelers from Phoenix.

Phoenix is Southwest's busiest market behind Las Vegas and Chicago Midway Airport.

They normaly don't carry mutch so the baggage area will be used for passengers. Along with the overhead compartment.  :D
