In the middle of August I want to go from Havasu to Laughlin up the river. I have never navigated this trip and i am looking for tips on how to do this without any complications or at least just a few . I have a Sea Rey 180 w/ a 3.0 Mercruiser.
I do have a depth finder if that helps, on the stern. So if anybody can help me out that would be great.

Thank you

I did it..............in a jet. :)

I saw some big boats doing it though.  Just watch for the ripples on the water and/or discoloration indicating shallow conditions. :)

I do not know what your draft is. But I would guess that it is from 3 to 3.5 feet.

If so, I would caution you not to try it.

:good I have done it in the same Sea Ray many times, best to go in the afternoon after they let some water out of the dam.  Also check to flow from the dam the day before you go.  If it low don't go or you will be walking your boat thru the rock area

There's a BIG A$$ rock bar on the Cali side of the river, north of the Needles Bridge / 95 crossing.  Maybe 2-3 miles up... :stupid

It's right near the end of the houses on the AZ side, and some new construction (big homes) on the Cali side.  I had my jet up there last Sept and had to idle through the area... :eek

I wanted to do that trip also. Looked up satellite images all the way up. You can't even see water over that rock bar.
Changed my mind quick. My freind with the 28' nordic ate 6 props trying last summer.

Hey, I do it all the time... :D

But then again, I don't have one of those things hanging off the back of my boat.  :laugh

BUT, (and that's a big butt) my buddies also make the trip in their Maibus...and it's no problem.

As Shueman said, keep to the right as you go past the bridge at Needles. And I mean right, not just right of center. After you pass the houses on the right it opens up and it's a consistent depth for a while, then there are sporadic sandbars here and there, but you can usually see them to avoid them. Just move along on plane.

If you are really worried you could always follow the London Bridge boat on it's way back up river.  :good

It can be done but with extreme caution and at the right time of the day when water level is at its highest.......
I'd done it with my jet multiple times but never wanted to with the I/O.

We will have to meet us sometime soon.  August is a difficult month.  Gone for two weeks the middle of the month.  Going up to Monterey to find some cool air.  We live and play in the heat.
