Yikes!  Did you buy the insurance?  If not, I'd try to get some if it's not too late.

We are on United all the way through, 767-300's from LA to Maui. Nice planes and normally the crews working the Hawaii runs are pretty good. I'm hoping they can pour a good Bloddy Mary :drink

We've been using Aloha out of John Wayne the last few years and they've been great overall other than a few delays like most airlines. :plane

Scenario: (My wife was traveling alone with my kid to where I would meet them on a later date in Hawaii)

For starters, they searched my 4yr old kid like he was a terrorist and asking him if that was his real mother.  Then on a 6 hour flight they had nothing to eat besides a little bag of peanuts.   Then on the flight back from Hawaii to LA they (my wife and kid) had a lay over in Honolulu.  When she got there they told her that her flight to LA was canceled.  WTF  :angry  :angry   My wife had no family, no bags, no clothes, no friends on that island, stuck with my 4yr old kid.  She finally got a flight 12 hours later, through Continental and American Airlines ACTED as they were doing HER a FAVOR.

If that was how I ran my company I would have been closed the next day.

Sorry for the venting.  :D

Avoid tranfers in Honolulu at all costs. Every nitemare trip I hear about from/to Hawaii always starts with "we were at Honolulu Airport". Cancelled or severely delayed flights are pretty normal from there. Book direct flights to the island of choice whenever you can, you'll be glad you did.

Kevin, if you're getting a rental car, be careful with it.  They are a magnet for thieves.  Our friends (JeepinScotts) got all of their luggage and cameras stolen out of  theirs.  Don't leave anything in it you don't want to replace.  The rental car company just shrugged it off claiming that it happens all the time.

Hopefully most the stuff stays in the room on day trips. If they want the stuff in the car it shouldn't be tough to grab since we rented a Convertible :D

Try 12 hrs to Europe or I think Fiji was close to 15hrs.....big jumbo's so you just get up and walk around to stretch out some.
.
Have you packed the suitcases yet? make sure to take extra set of clothes in your carry-on in case the other stuff gets lost.

Fock that carry-on :D ... check it all and take a credit card... a pair of board shorts and flip flops can't be that much if Divided Airlines sends your bags to Europe...  :good

Even better is we usually only have carry-ons when going to Hawaii, no checked baggage at all is the best way to go.

:stupid  Checking or not checking baggage?  I ain't got any knitting needles or boxknives in my bags?
We had bags lost on one trip for most of a day when we went to Sweden, we ended up going to our first meeting in the same clothes we traveled 12+ hours in. So travel channel had tips about having a few extra things in your carryon bags for just that reason. Also, if we can avoid the waits around the baggage carousels we will pack what we need into a couple carryons and avoid that whole scene. Clear baggy for the stuff that needs to be. We've done it enough to make it thru checks quickly and have even been thanked by some inspectors for being smart about it...LOL
I'm looking at it from a travelers perspective not TSA. I want to get in/out and through as quickly as we can.

I could give two hoots about the TSA... :D

It's seems that it's gotten to the point that so many people are carrying on all of their luggage that it's absurd...

When I was burning up the airways going to see Bushy this last year, I was always amazed at how long it took us to get off the airplane due to everyones multiple carry on bags...  :rolleyes

I know it seems everyone has a lost baggage story, and maybe it's because I travel primarily for leisure instead of business, but I'd be just as happy if the scarlines would ban any carryon bigger than a briefcase.  I check everything, and figure if the bags don't make it, there will be some place to buy a couple pair of shorts and a shirt or two where ever I am going.

I almost missed a connection in Chi-town last winter because I was stuck at the back of an MD-80 while 100 other people removed multiple carryon items and sauntered down the isle.  It took me 30 minutes to get off the airplane.

<---- not a big fan of the carryon bags... :D

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.
