Went to an Oktoberfest with my dad yesterday. First time I've been able to get my dad out and socialize with his co-horts since mom died . They served Brats, wieners, saurkraut and potato salad...topped of with some delicious apfel struddel All of it home made Had a fun little um-pa-pa band there. Its a small local German/American club where most patrons are 70+ yrs old. They could still knock down the Oktoberfest bier and have a good time. The Trundel dresses on the women always look so cute.

Sounds like a kick... hope your dad had a good time.
My Grandfather is 1/2 German... so that makes me... ummmm... American. Â He never talks about any German traditions. Â I get the impression that most of those were suppressed following WWI...
Funny how family history influences everyday life. Â I picked my insurance agent because she spells her last name in the German version... Fischer... the same as my Grandfather's family.

Very nice that you were able to enjoy that with your Pop. Sounded like fun.
