City cuts pay, eyes layoffs
By TONY WAGGONER Thursday, February 26, 2009 10:22 PM MST
A bleak financial outlook for Lake Havasu City has forced the city manager to announce a 5 percent reduction in wages and salaries across the board for all city departments.
The 5 percent reduction is in addition to possible layoffs of 26 to 40 city employees.
City Manager Richard Kaffenberger said layoffs are something he long fought to prevent, but the economy and a bleak budget outlook made them unavoidable.
Kaffenberger would not comment on whether the layoffs would include any city department heads or what specific departments would be impacted the most.
On Wednesday, Kaffenberger spoke with several hundred city employees at the Aquatic Center to unveil a multi-pronged approach to cut $8.5 million in city spending. The plan includes no step increases in wages or salaries for the fiscal year 2009-10.
Funding for nonprofit agencies would also be cut by 20 percent.

does that mean that the Bartender position isn't open anymore??? LOL...the last time I was on the actual Lake Havasu City web page they were hiring a part time bartender....lol
if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all
I talked to the guys in the building dept today, they are scared chitless, I too hope they stay put, because I don't want to have to break in any more new inspectors
That 20% hit to the nonprofit, was actually the Interagency council, thats the charity my car club supports
it's bleek out here, so many are broke and within sight of loosing it all, and I mind as well be lumped into that bunch as well, one hick-up for me and it's game over
this stuff is getting ugly and it's only going to get worse

out of curiosity..did the bottom fall out for us (here in the east) Before it did out there??
seems like the impact has hit here before there. Maybe I'm just seeing the East coast side of it more than ther west coast.
I don't think it's all that regional. The whole counties in the same boat. Cities like Havi will get hit hard because it's economy is based on expendable money, Boats. Spend a weekend in Havi or pay the mortgage.
Hey Joe how can we go down much farther we never when up very high like out west, that is why we did not feel it as bad here, Hey a dead horse is not getting up now is it. In other word we were alreadly dead before anybody even knew it. My house is still worth what it was back in 2002, never shot up there for it won't go down. LOL
I'm sure if I would have jump on the bandwagon and moved with everybody else when they were giving out free loans for $500,000 houses I'm sure I'd in the same spot as all them. I look at some of these deal Buy me for $500,000 for only $1,000 a month and when I seen that after 2 years it go's to $3,000 I knew I could not afford that.
You see JOE now we know how all these guy's were buying all these big homes and big boat's and rhino's LOL. Now It's our turn to go clean up and take there losses for 1/2 the price and live good. LOL Sorry if this sound mean but If life.
I'm looking at boat's that guy's can't make the payments on and moho's and some sweet looking home in havi, I'm just not sure if I want to pull the trigger yet. I'm set here for right now you know, very low house payment and a job I know is not going anywere.
